As the title suggests, this book by Margaret Van Sicklen, the “origami swami,” is perfect for a long car, train, bus or plane ride. All of the projects in the book, a total of 40, center on themes of travel. Paper-folding creations range from a Zambia Giraffe to a Mummy to a Chinese Opera Hat. In addition to all of the supplies needed (100 sheets of beautiful, colorful origami paper and 3 sheets of stickers) the book includes easy to follow instructions, fun facts about the world, maps, history and much much more. Perfect for children with patience (9 years old, at least) to work alone, but, as I discovered, younger kids love watching the designs come to life in the hands of a capable parent. Thank you Workman Publishing.
