Ah, the wonders of a first aquarium; the life lessons taught after the first fish you’ve fed to death or gone weeks without acknowledging. While cheapo plastic aquariums are well-suited to the task, upping the budget for the kids’ first aquarium is a good way to ensure that they — or at least you — do everything possible to keep that fish breathing. Ready for nine gallons of your finest tap water, the BiUbe Pure Aquarium gives you all the beauty and serentity of a full-sized aquarium in a space that’s perfect for the kids’ dresser or desk. Best of all, though, it promises minimal maintenance — which is great when you consider how quickly it’ll go ignored.
$219 from Frontgate.

These are awful aquariums. Small tanks are setting yourself up for rapid fluctuations in water quality and temperature, which is a quick road to dead fish.
