I’m not sure really what to think about this one. The Safety 1st No Touch Thermometer is exactly what it says it is – a thermometer that doesn’t require any contact with whatever you are taking the temperature of. And assuming it’s accurate (and I have absolutely no reason to think it won’t be) then it could be a very cool addition to your baby-care aresenal. But I’m wondering personally, is that a good thing?
Brand new parents can be obsessive enough about stuff anyway. Is it really nescessary to know the exact temperature of the formula you are preparing? Or the bath water? Or the food? Or wipes you’re using? Isn’t it still good enough to use a good old fashioned touch? I mean, are you really going to draw your kids a bath, check the temperature and say, “Yup, a nice warm 85 degrees,” without touching the bath water first anyway? In my mind all that number is going to do is make a not so well balanced new parent (and weren’t we all at one point or another?) obsess over unimportant specifics.
But then again, some say more data never hurts. And for $59.99 you’ve got the option.
Safety 1st No Touch Thermometer. Available at Target in December 2009 or January 2010 for $59.99. Not available on their web site yet, but you can check out the other thermometers at Safety1st .com.
