It’s no secret that I’ve got a touch of francophilia (I last posted about a gorgeous nap mat featuring the Eiffel Tower). When I was pregnant my friends had me pegged well, and many of the baby gifts I received worked in Paris somehow. In fact, I received two copies of the French children’s book “La Ballon Rouge” (en Francais), based on Albert Lamorisee’s famous film, and one of “The Red Baloon,” which is the English version. 5 years later, my kids still demand these books (both versions) on a regular basis. And merci for that because I never tire of this beautiful story of a young boy and his touching relationship with a loyal, helium-filled red balloon. Set in Paris!
As there is hardly any dialog, the movie is perfect for children anywhere. The version released last year by Janus Films in association with Criterion Collection is supurb! Only $9.99 at Amazon.com.
