ABC Kids Expo 2009: Puj Tub – An Innovative Newborn Bathtime Solution

It’s always great to see a new product at a show like ABC that you’ve never seen before, but it’s really exciting to see a product that solves a problem through design in a simple and innovative way. The Puj Tub from Puj, (pronounced “pudge” as in pudgy baby) is that kind of product.

Every parent of a newborn has the same problem in their life – how do I bathe this squriming little baby easily? Or at least, how do I do it as safely and as quickly as possible? The Puj Tub solves it with one piece of antibacterial, non-toxic, cushy foam and four magnets. The Puj Tub snaps together to form a small tub that can be placed in a sink allowing Mom, Dad or anyone to bathe the child in a sink. The tub also drains through the bottom through a small hole so you won’t really make a huge mess (or get in trouble with too much water). Then, when you’re done, it opens up flat again and can be placed on hook for easy drying.

There are so many advantages to this thing for me. First, it’s super easy to keep clean because you can hang it up and let it drip dry. Also, because you’re using the sink and not the tub you are basically doing a pretty tricky job standing up and not hunched over a tub (which is also great for Grandma or Grandpa). And for travel it rules. The whole thing is super lightweight (as it’s only made of foam) and can be placed flat in a suitcase. We must have bought two or three of those blow-up Munchkin duck tubs while my girls were babies at Targets all over the country.

The Puj Tub was previously available on their website for $100 but they couldn’t keep them in stock. But now they will be available in stores in November at a price point of $39.99. If I had babies 3 months or younger, I would definitely be keeping an eye out for it.
