BPA Free Lunch

After reading our report this week on BPA, I went straight home and studied my plastics. It wasn’t pretty and now I have to replace those toxic bowls, utensils and sippies I was using to pack a lunch for my three-year-old. Needless to say, I’ve been stimulating the economy. Here are a few finds that I feel comfortable using to hold things that go straight into my daughter’s gullet:

Graze Organic Reusable Sandwich & Snack Bags

No plastic. None. Zero. Zip. These organic cotton bags from Graze Organic are the right size for lunch for little people and with water-based inks identifying the contents (snack, sandwich, vegetables, fruit and my favorite – surprise) I’m not worried about one single thing leaching into my daughter’s PB& J. Of course you do have to toss them in the wash if the food gets a bit messy, but that’s a small price to pay for keeping the hormones and chemicals away from your growing kiddos.

Get sets of three or five at Graze Organic starting at $24.

Dante Beatrix Lunch Bag from Oompa

Now this laminated canvas lunch box was a challenge coming on the heels of my major freakout because it kinda looks like plastic. But the people at Oompa were patient with me and spoke verrrry slowly so I would understand that the lunch box is PVC, phthalate and lead safe. Thank goodness, because, look – adorable! They also make backpacks.

Get it at Oompa for $33.99

*Baby SIGG Bottles

Technically I already had a few of these on hand; but after dumping all the other plastic sippy cups with the ‘7’ on the bottom I needed more. Lisa has discovered an even cooler SIGG option here.

Get it at Amazon for $16.25.

And that’s exactly how my pre-schooler’s lunch was packed today. Now I can move on to that whole Princess problem… – April Peveteaux

*This SIGG bottle was released in August 2009 and is BPA free. See this notice to check your SIGG bottles purchased before that time to make sure they do not contain BPA.

Love, love, love that good companies are coming out with great ways to keep our kids healthy and doing it with a great aesthetics. That’s certainly what we strive for at ZoLi with our eco-friendly baby goods. I especially love the lunch box and baggie combo – moms are always on the hunt for easy to use, great looking eco-friendly options. I know this will be on my BTS supplies list for my daughter.
