Remember fruit roll-ups? Somehow we feel totally guilty putting in our kids’ lunchboxes what our parents slipped in ours without a second thought.
So I was salivating over the box of FruitaBu fruit roll-ups sent my way by Stretch Island. I’m not a big organic fan, but I do try to limit sugar in our house, and the FruitaBu organic smoooshed fruit rolls promise 99 percent real fruit in every roll.
Good news? They’re delicious – although they taste nothing like the fruit roll-ups of our childhood. They are indeed low in artificial sugars, depending on the sweetness of the fruit itself. But if your kids are fruit crazy like mine, it doesn’t matter – they aren’t expecting the fake stuff that we ate (and savored) and they won’t miss it.
Even better, they’re roll ups in the traditional sense – so all the fun of peeling from the paper and slipping a long strip of “smoooshed” fruit leather in your mouth has withstood the test of time. They’ll be playing with these fruit rolls the same way we did as kids.
Get them in strawberry, grape or apple at your local grocery store or stock up big on Amazon right now – a 30-pack of strawberry is $16.62, and the same price for the same mega-pack is available for the grape. Smaller packs are available at Stretch Island ($3.99 a box for packs of 6).
