Shrek The Musical hit Broadway this winter. It brings to live theater the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek!, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek. Yesterday we took in a matinee. Our 4-year-old reviewer deemed it “Great!” And she wasn’t alone–the audience was packed with kids enjoying an uproariously good time. That crazy, fast-talking donkey, that lovable goof Shrek, that overcompensating meany Lord Farquaad, and the lovely burping Fiona–they were all there. You won’t soon forget the costumes (they won the ‘09 Tony) and Brian d’Arcy James’ Shrek is really a comic masterpiece. This is family entertainment at its best.
