Win a Parenting Guilty Pleasure: Reba on DVD

After staying tuned to the Jon and Kate Plus 8 saga all week, I needed a serious break from depressing television. So I turned to an old favorite – silly sitcoms.

Oh, come on, who doesn’t? And I have to admit I was excited to hear the last season of Reba was hitting shelves this week. Excited enough to procure one for a Babble reader.

What does this have to do with a parenting site, you ask? Oh come on, did you ever watch this show? It got mixed reviews, but I loved it for the approach to mixed families that you don’t often see on TV. The divorced parents were not at odds with one another (yes, this is where it’s my antidote to Jon and Kate). If anything, they were great examples of HOW to parent through a divorce. Don’t let your kids think the other parent is evil – because the kids come first.

When it was on, it got mixed reviews but had some of the best viewership of any show on its network (the CW in case you can’t remember). And it was one of those goofy feel-good shows that steered clear of the morals but offered a hearty helping of REAL motherhood. OK – motherhood with a laugh track and kind of silly jokes (see below).

In other words? The ULTIMATE guilty pleasure for mother watching (and father watching if he likes) when the kids are still awake.
