Maternity Faves and Raves: American Apparel’s Yo Mama Collection

I saw the American Apparel’s ad for their Yo Mama clothes and my heart skipped a beat. My pregnancy wardrobe could definitely use a good dose of American Apparel’s cool basics. When I first clicked on the ad and saw what they recommended, I wasn’t excited. I couldn’t see myself wearing unitards and leg warmers to the playground or the supermarket. After further investigation, I found many very chic options for pregnant women, hiding amongst the non-pregnant women’s clothes. See some of my favorites after the jump.

Fine Jersey Racerback Tank Dress has just enough form fitting style to hug my belly and still be comfortable. Great as a bathing suit cover up, too. (Probably should wear with a tank top underneath if you want to wear a bra!) Available in seven solid colors and one striped. ($32)

Sheer Rib Loose Sleeveless Dress makes me feel considerably more stylin’ than my usual pregnancy garb. This casual dress looks great with sandals or flip flops. Looks super fab at the playground, but also works great for date night. Available in four colors. ($32)

Pinpoint Oxford Shirt Dress looks adorable with leggings or without. On me, it’s more of a large button down shirt than a dress, but that’s because I’m eight months pregnant. I plan on wearing this for months to come after my baby is born. Available in two colors and also as a Poly-Cotton version. ($62)

I personally think American Apparel should create an entire maternity collection, but for now we can borrow from the non-maternity clothes and come up with some very fashionable and comfy looks. Shop American Apparel.

You know what I like the best about this? The pregnant model is *big*. I mean, really full & ripe with child, and not waifish with the basketball-on-a-size-2-stick that are most maternity models. I appreciate seeing pregnant women, even if Americal Apparel is hardly ‘the media’, per se. You go, mama!

I thought the same thing…

OK, the unitard would be hard to wear preggo or not. But in cooler temps those leg warmers could hide the swollen ankles!

I am pregnant and would not be caught dead in something as hideous as those unitards… Hideous colors and every lump and bump would be showing. Pregnant women want loose fitting clothes not something so tight we cant breathe. What about when you have to pee 50 times a day it seems… Imagine having to get out of that thing to use the bathroom that often. Some may like it but Its def. not for me.
