There’s a new girl in town. Rebecca Rubin is the newest, and perhaps most anticipated addition to the American Girl family. American Girl has a cult like following with the little girls as well as their parents. What makes this release – which came out May 31st- unique in the roster? She’s their first Jewish American character.
Rebecca Rubin resides in the Lower East Side with her family in the year 1914. The doll comes… packaged with the first of the six books chronicling Rebecca’s life and times. The books, written by Jacqueline Dembar, illustrates the time, the traditions and the texture of her world with a large sprinkling of the Jewish American experience,
Rebecca continues the tradition of being well made just like the rest of the American Girl dolls. This 18” inch soft cloth body doll has a movable head and limbs that are made of smooth vinyl. Her outfit is historically appropriate with a herringbone dress with velvet like cuffs and color, bloomers, black tights and spat like boots. Very 1914 for sure.
And the historical and cultural appropriateness doesn’t stop with just the dolls, oh no. In for a foot and your in for a mile with this doll. You can splash out with her pink iron bed, school kit, a sideboard and a Sabbath set that includes candles and hallah bread.
Entertaining and educational, Rebecca is a mitzah, even to this shikse. The doll even got the seal of approval of a couple of Rabbis. Now how many dolls can say that?
You can pick one up here for $95.
