16 Names On My List If I Was Having A Girl
As we all know I am having my first boy – after 4 girls! Well, needless to say – my list of girls names was a mile long. After getting so much feedback on our battle of the boys names, I thought it would be fun to share my girls names since I’ve been getting lots of tweets wondering just what made my list.
Girls names were never hard for us. They’ve been so easy! So, when it came to boys names – it was a nightmare. We were set on Emerson Rose if it was a girl this time around however, we are thrilled + blessed to be welcoming a boy! I was pretty set on having a girl because well, look at my track record. Part of the reason we had a girl named so early is because I swore it was going to be another girl. Well, we got an amazing surprise.
After the jump, browse through the 16 names on the top of my very long list if I was having a girl.

One of the Many Reasons I Want to Have a Family with Her
For those of you who know my wife, you know just how big and true her heart is, how she inspires others to reach for goals they once thought unattainable, and how she never fails to make people laugh.
So, this post is a slight breakaway from the talks of our baby-making process and a nod to one of the many reasons I want to start a family with Sara. Continue reading »
10 Wildly Inappropriate Answers To “When Are You Due?”
It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a smartmouth. Anyone who ever reads my personal blog will find it loaded with sarcasm, irreverence, and…well…cussing. I’m a trash talker at heart. It’s taken me years of practice to get good at saying the right things at the right times instead of letting my inner wiseass run rampant.
Unfortunately, pregnancy hormones don’t make keeping a civil tongue in my head easier. In fact, I think my filter is less complete than usual and I’m always in danger of popping out some really snarky responses to ordinary questions. As it stands now, my stock response to people asking if I know if I’m having a boy or a girl is “I’m not sure yet but it’s definitely one or the other!”. That usually elicits a laugh, thank heavens, because I can’t seem to make myself stop saying it.
Now that it’s clear that I’m in the last weeks of pregnancy, people are asking me all the time when I’m due. This is a perfectly reasonable question, it’s always asked politely, and there is no reason on earth that it should bother me. And, in fact, it doesn’t really bother me. It’s just that I’ve heard it so many times that I want to say something other than rattling off my planned delivery date over and over again. To amuse myself, I daydream about saying shocking things instead of the polite thing.
Here are ten answers I sometimes wish I could give when people ask when I’m due! Continue reading »
Fitness Check-In
Exercise is hard enough on a normal basis, but it can get especially tricky when you’re pregnant. But we all know how important it is to exercise while pregnant, health permitting, so this is your friendly reminder to keep at it!
I’m doing pretty good sticking to my goal, which is to exercise at least three times a week. Sometimes, all I can muster is a walk around the block with my dog. Other days, I go for a long swim. I’m really proud of myself for keeping up with swimming – I went swimming today, in fact, to celebrate Week 37!
How do I create accountability and motivate myself to stick to my goal?
How Do You Know When Your Water Breaks (Chime In!)
Over the weekend we took a little mini-vacation away to a huge indoor water park. Well, it occurred to me, as I was sitting in the wave pool, waves crashing on my bump + all — crap, how do I know if my water breaks in here? Of course, I am way to0 early for my water to break (17 weeks) but I was doing a lot and with my history … well, you just never know. Especially since my water has never broken naturally.
I immediately jumped out of the pool to Google. I know, gotta love Google. And well now? I am fully educated between the many websites I browsed on over the weekend to learn just how you know your water has broken. You would think, after 4 littles, I would know — but honestly, I really didn’t. It’s always been a very large gush for me on the hospital bed. Note to self: Don’t go to a water park in your last month of pregnancy.
After the jump, read on to see how you know when your water breaks, what to expect and just what to do!
Asking Friends for IVF Money? Why Not?!
No, I’m not asking any of you for money to help fund our baby-making process. I’m one of the very lucky ones who has amazing insurance benefits that cover my IVF. In fact, because our fertility center is considered a “center of excellence,” we don’t have to pay so much as a copay for our visits. Our nearly $4,000 worth of IVF hormones (for one month!) cost us roughly $130 in copays, and the over $7,000 IVF procedure is fully covered by our insurance. Yes, I’ve griped about the cost of sperm — and still can’t believe how expensive it is! — and the fact that we have to pay out-of-pocket for it. But I can tell you wholeheartedly that if I didn’t have the coverage that I do, if I wasn’t blessed with a job that provides top-of-the-line insurance, I would undoubtedly and unashamedly reach out to friends and family to help cover the costs.
Apparently, though, others think it’s a terrible idea.
