Just when I thought sleep came easy, I've turned into an insomniac.

This morning my eyes popped open at 4:30 am and would simply not close.  I lay in bed, watching the minutes tick by on the clock wondering if this was the end of my blissful night’s sleep.  Pretty soon after tossing and turning for a good 45 minutes, I gave up and decided to get out of bed.  The sun was beginning to come up anyway, why not get a head start on my sleepy day?  Now it’s 10:00 am and my eyes are already feeling heavy.  Oh sleep… Why do you torture me?! My last check-up was 10 days ago.  Since then I’ve been walking a LOT and trying other things to help move this baby along.  My husband and I went on a 3 mile walk yesterday and needless to say, I was pretty excited about my 39 week appointment as I was convinced that I’d made progress.  So when my doctor revealed that nothing had changed since last week, I began to get discouraged. 39 weeks pregnant and so ready to meet this baby!

As of yesterday, I’m officially 39 weeks pregnant.  I’m also officially tired of being pregnant.  I’m large.  I’m uncomfortable.  My hips ache and I’m getting pretty good at complaining to my husband about all the things I’m definitely not going to miss about being pregnant.  Especially considering that two months ago I was convinced that this little man was coming early.  Now, only a week from my due date, I’m ready to attempt things to help speed up his arrival, whether they be old wives’ tales or proven facts.

At my very first prenatal yoga class, a soon-to-be mom was concerned about her baby being breech.  She wanted to try different positions to turn the baby and was looking for advice.  While our instructor suggested a few things she also brought up a good point.  Babies don’t just go into an un-preferred position for labor for the heck of it.  They might be there because it feels safe and to always remember that regardless what kind of delivery you have, you’ll be happiest with a healthy baby in the end. We decided on a name for our little man!

Picking out a name for our little man has been quite across the board, from exciting and fun to down right frustrating.  With our last name being Brown, we automatically knew there were certain things we could not call him: Charlie, James and Leroy were out from the beginning.  Plus we knew pretty much any really popular name was out due to the risk that he’d end up being one of three Mike Browns in his class.  We knew it needed to be a strong, unique name and we went with something no one would have suspected. Me with my favorite tiny striped shirt for our little man.

I’m a sucker for stripes!  One thing that I can’t seem to resist are tiny striped clothes for our upcoming arrival as well as cute striped clothes to cover my bump.  I’ve totally embraced stripes during pregnancy and own far too many striped items to count.  I’m excited to dress my baby in stripes and I have a little confession: I’ve even got a few matching stripe outfits for us – oh yes I do!!

I’ve been having a really great pregnancy so far.  Everything has been smooth sailing with no problems or bumps along the road.  I’ve been planning a natural childbirth, free of drugs or unnecessary interventions and have planned to labor at home for as long as possible before heading off to the hospital.  However, at my doctors appointment last week, I was informed that I’d tested positive for Group B Strep, which adds a tiny hitch in my plan.
