Being Pregnant
7 Most Annoying Things To Say To A Pregnant Woman
There is nothing more beautiful then a glowing pregnant woman. I always smile when I see a woman walking with life growing in her — has to do with my crazy baby fever. Pregnant women seem to be a walking billboard for attention though, even when not wanted.
Something about the round belly and glowing skin that makes people lose their ‘society filter’ and people talk before the think. There are some questions and statements that seem universal for a pregnant woman to hear — some of them are cute but there are some that are annoying!

ja commented on Feb 02 12 at 2:03 pmI agree on all except the first two. It was a struggle to get and stay pregnant, so I can repeat my due date and baby’s gender 1000 times a day without being annoyed. But, comment about my size, and I might clobber you.
Janet commented on Feb 02 12 at 2:14 pmI was about 17 or 18 weeks pregnant when a woman asked me if I felt movement yet. I told her not a thing and she moaned “You’re supposed to by now! I felt mine move all the time. You should tell that to your doctor right away; something can be wrong!” I just walked away thinking this lady is a complete nut. Not only did she imply that I was carrying a dead baby, but she assumed her pregnancy was the model for all.
megan commented on Feb 02 12 at 3:08 pmUgh, I made it to my 8th month without anyone saying anything rude (well, aside from my husband’s cousins who are just rude people; they told me they will intentionally mispronounce my baby’s name- Isla- because they hate it), but now I’m getting a lot of these. Got the “you look tired” at my own baby shower, when I actually WAS thinking I looked decent, and the twins comment coupled with the ‘you’re going to have a huge baby’ at the grocery store (according to doc, my baby will be perfectly average sized, thankyouverymuch). I don’t mind the gender and due date stuff, I usually think those questions are a safe zone for people who want to comment but don’t want to insult. But as far as looks go, anything other than some variation of ‘you look beautiful’ is totally unacceptable. A girl at the farmers market this weekend told me I looked beautiful, and I nearly started crying because it was such a nice thing to say (and most other strangers have been rude or tried to run me over with their cars or cut in front of me in line). That girl singlehandedly restored a tiny bit of my faith in other humans.
ariela commented on Feb 02 12 at 5:43 pmMy least favorite comment (so far) was “Was it planned?” I had no problem saying yes, but I think this is a totally inappropriate thing to be asking, especially from someone I hardly know!
I actually told an acquaintance that this was not an entirely appropriate thing to be asking… and she seemed surprised.
Ruth commented on Feb 03 12 at 4:11 amI’m only 8 weeks and I’m already sick of people asking me should I be doing/eating/using that?
Engineer Mommy commented on Feb 03 12 at 4:29 amI certainly liked the “Not so much longer now!” one. In the 7th month, people would ask me: “So, it cannot be long anymore now, right?” And I’d say: “Well, I’ve got two more months to go, actually.” And then they’d make a face, as if to say “Damn, really?” And then, depending on the person’s rudeness level, I would get the twin comment.
I just think a lot of people have no idea what a real full term pregnant woman looks like.
Jennifer commented on Feb 03 12 at 12:48 pmOooh, I’m wholeheartedly behind the “Sleep now, while you can.” Funny thing is, I hear it more from women (and women who already have children), than I do from anyone else. It’s like the least funny inside joke ever. Yeah, I can’t get comfortable, wake several times a night to pee and frequently have raging heartburn – I’m sleeping great right now!
skeeta25 commented on Feb 04 12 at 9:00 amOne I’ve got multiple times in the *gossipy* hospital where I work is “oh, and you’re married!” Or my favorite, I walk to two nurses and confirm when they ask if I’m pregnant, and nurse A looks at my ring finger, turns to nurse b and says “yes, she is married!” As if I’m not even there! And so what if I wasn’t!?, should I be tarred and feathered? Ugh…
mommy to be commented on Feb 15 12 at 9:21 pmI’ve gotten almost all of these! People can be so rude! I was in the pet store with my boyfriend, I had a question about a toy for our dog that chews threw everything except her Kong toy. But, she really likes rope toys and it’s quite bothersome trying to pick up peices of it off the floor when you can’t see your own feet. Anyway I walk up to the saleswoman and she automatically says “Oh wow! Your about to Pop your having twin boys I assume?” I reply to her dumbfounded. “One boy and not quite I have two months to go.” She says “You sure it’s only one? and I thnk they have your Due date wrong!” I was mortified. I replied “pretty sure it’s only one and I think my doctor knows how to count.” She show’s me a toy that should be okay for my dog and walks off. I thnk the worst part of being pregnant yes including the morning sickness that never goes away and the AWFUL heartburn that never stops is when people make comments like these.
