Do You Like 3D Ultrasounds?

Screen shot 2012 01 26 at 9.50.27 PM Do You Like 3D Ultrasounds? Today we had an ultrasound and to my surprise, the black and white image turned into a 3D look at our baby. To tell you the truth, it was hard to make out much while looking at the screen but then the tech printed a few stills and I was stunned at how detailed the images were. At first it took me back a little bit. I couldn’t believe I was seeing what our baby looked like without him even leaving the womb. Ever since I knew I was pregnant (heck, ever since I met my husband) I’ve wondered what our kids would look like and the answer was sitting right in front of me. I was studying every detail.

The first thing I definitely noticed was his nose which is prominent just like his mom and dad. Then I noticed how much he already looks like my husband, very much a boy. If we hadn’t found at the sex I for sure would have known after seeing his picture today.

During our wait for the doctor, I found myself just staring at the three images (that is when my husband wasn’t hogging them). And the more I looked at them, the more I got over the initial shock and I felt more attached to this little baby than I’ve felt the entire pregnancy. This is my son and I love him so much. I even told my husband while walking back to the car that I just wanted him to come out now.

So do I like 3D ultrasounds? At first it seemed weird and like it was ruining a bit of the surprise and wonder but now I’m happy I got a better glimpse at him today because it made me even more excited to meet him.

Have you had a 3D ultrasound? What did you think?

Yaay for 3-D ultrasounds! I love them too! I had a similar experience – during ours there was a moment when my son turned his head and I saw the shape of his cheeks and chin and mouth, and suddenly he seemed like a real baby. It doubled my excitement about meeting him, and suddenly I couldn’t wait to kiss that sweet little face :)

I personally think it is silly when people try to hold off information until the birth in order to preserve the excitement. Having a baby is the most exciting thing ever and could never be spoiled. Getting to meet your baby and watch him grow into a person day after day and week after week is the real adventure. Trust me, there will always be surprises along the way. I loved getting my 3D/4D ultrasound. I loved knowing my baby was adorable, I loved knowing that he looked like my husband, and it did help me bond even before the birth.

I agree 100% with everything Kelly said. With my now 16month old, I had GD, and therefore had u/s every week from 28weeks on. I loved getting the 3d/4d pics u/s every week, plus all the photos for the pregnancy journal! And now that I’m about to have baby boy #2, I love the 3d u/s even more(even though we didn’t get as many -no GD!), bc I got to see how much he already looks like his big brother!

I didn’t want to get a 3D ultrasound because I feel like they always look awful. A lot of them in particular make it look like the child has a harelip, cleft palate, etc. and I’d be worried the rest of my pregnancy! I feel like we’ll get a MUCH more flattering view of him when he’s out and not squished against my uterus (or a victim of less than perfect imaging technology). :)

I didn’t mean to get a 3D but I was in for an ultrasound and “he was in a really good position” according to the tech so she did one. Awesome, except it was WAY to early in the pregnancy. In the ones posted online you see babies that look like babies. He did not look like a baby, he looked really scary, his body fat hadn’t really come in yet so he was rather skeletal. I had nightmares the rest of the pregnancy that I was giving birth to Jack Skellington.
