6 Stylish Baby Bassinets

01 1 300x292 6 Stylish Baby Bassinets I’m under the train of thought that I don’t want to buy too many things until the baby arrives and we have a better idea of what we actually need. That being said, this babe will need a little place to sleep right off the bat and not in our bed. I like the idea of having a bassinet or moses basket to have him close by for all those late night feedings. Here are six stylish ones that I’m thinking about but I would love to get any advice on what you experienced moms would recommend. I most likely won’t be going with the expensive options because I know they’re not practical but I like to look anyway.

I love the look of Moses baskets, but when I got one I freaked out and wouldn’t use it. I couldn’t put my baby in there–it looks like magazine storage. Then I got a hand me down arms reach co-sleeper and LOVED it. It’s not stylish, but it’s neutral and attached right to the bed like a baby sidecar. My daughter slept in it until she was about 6 months old.

We loved our Moses basket and used it for at least the first three months with all of our kids, sometimes longer. Portability is an important feature for when they’re tiny.

I loved having my baby in the baby Moses basket. Our room is not big and so we just put the basket on the dresser next to me. It was so perfect and we could move him so easily. Then when we transitioned him to his crib we just put the basket in the crib and it was a pretty easy transition.

We’re planning on using a pack-n-play with a bassinette add-on in our bedroom for the first couple of months. We have a cat who, while decidedly not a jumper, does get up on the bed fairly often, and we have a rather tall dog, so we still have to be careful where the baby sleeps. A free-standing structure rather than a basket on a surface that can be accessed by curious kitties/pups or a co-sleeper that can attach to a bed is best for us… and if we use the pack-n-play, it’ll be useful well into their toddler years for play, travel and naps.

Get the Sausolito Moses basket!

Oh and if you’re going to do late night feedings in bed, make sure your bed is really comfortable and that you have enough pillows for support or else your back is going to KILL in no time. Especially since your abs will have no strength. Seriously Mel, this is important. You’re going to be doing a lot of bending over and picking up. You should probably get a diamond tufted headboard.

Or you may want to consider putting the glider in your room until baby’s ready to sleep in his own room.

Our daughter slept in a Snuggle Nest for the first five weeks, then we moved her to a crib. It was perfect. I should also note that my husband slept separately so one of us could get sleep. He would change her when she woke up and fed her while I pumped, then I would cover the night shift and he took over at 7 a.m.

We used a Miyo baby hammock for the first 6 months! We hung it at the end of the bed, so that it was still over the bed. It was so easy for feelings and diaper changes. IMO the price is worth it if!

we got a little merry fellows basket with our daughter was born in sept. We were really happy with it and she slept in it by our bed until she was 3months old.

Go for the least expensive Moses. My daughter used one for her first son-it traveled cross country in a “hockey style” soft duffle when she moved(The bonnet is attatched with Velcro, so it can be removed, and placed in the basket.) Four years later, back on the plane in the duffle- and she’s again using for her second son. Agree that transitioning to bigger bed was also accomplished easily. Maybe it’s me, but the freestanding beds..like the laundry hamper looking one-look like they could trip a sleepy Mom in the middle of the night…

I actually have a drying rack that looks like that freestanding laundry hamper thing… and it falls over easily. I wouldn’t take a chance on anything that knocks over or slides off (a table) easily. I would go with the co-sleeper attachment. I had a freestanding bassinet and actually got tired of getting up, picking her up, taking her to bed, and putting her back all night, especially considering how many times they wake up!

My little guy slept in a Moses Basket that came with a little rocking stand next to our bed for over 6 months. I loved it!

we got arm’s reach co-sleeper, and it’s the best thing EVER. you can use it right up against the bed or raise the side and use it as a normal bassinet. it’s not the most beautiful thing, but it’s not hideous either…neutral enough to not bug me. and it’s just such a great bed for a young baby.
