Being Pregnant
Pregnant And Lacking Holiday Cheer
I’m generally a fan of Christmas and holidays in general, but it seems like this year pregnancy has zapped all of the Christmas cheer from my being.
For the past couple of years we’ve decided to forgo crazy gratuitous gift giving, by DIY’ing all of our gifts and/or giving gifts of quality time (i.e. dinner dates, baked goods, etc…). But, this year – I’m heading to the mall. Yep. I said it. The very thought of even trying to attempt a DIY at this point in pregnancy sounds like pure torture.
But, that’s not the only lack of holiday cheer going on over in my neck of the woods…

A couple of weeks ago we went Christmas tree hunting. Well, guess where that tree is right now? If you guessed in my living room all lit up, you’d be wrong. If you guessed sitting in the trailer outside my house, then you guessed correctly. I never even brought it in the house. Who am I kidding? We all know that thing was never going to get decorated.
Oh, and all that holiday baking that usually goes on at this time of year? Non-existent. I rarely even cook dinners these days, so Christmas cookies? Not gonna happen. A few other things that are getting nixed from my usual holiday list: Christmas music (it annoys me), snowboarding/ice skating (for obvious reasons), snow in general (my feet don’t even fit in my rain boots anymore!), Christmas lights (yeah right – I’m so not climbing any ladders!)…the list goes on…
Basically I’m boycotting all the hype leading up to Christmas.
Rest assured I’ll make sure to enjoy some time with friends and family and eating delicious food, but I think everything else will just have to take a backseat until next year. The holidays are more fun with kids anyway, right?
What has being pregnant during Christmas been like for you?
Have you boycotted anything or are you more into the holiday festivities than ever?

Angie commented on Dec 16 11 at 11:42 amI know exactly how you feel. I’m 8 weeks along and with Nausea all day. I was planning to bake delicious treats and help my 4 year old daughther and my nieces and nephews decorate cookies and a ginger bread house. Please, that is not gonna happen. I can barely get up in the morning and any type of smell just annoys me. Poor kids, they are expecting a lot from their aunt this holiday and I will be surprising them with the news that I’m expecting and I’m not in the spirit of doing activities.

amanda commented on Dec 16 11 at 12:20 pmthe strangest thing for me is that i’ve bought christmas presents and wrapped them way earlier than i usually do. i think i had a sense that if i didn’t do it right away, i would never get around to it as my belly grew.
Brynn Wilson commented on Dec 16 11 at 2:05 pmI was 5 days overdue last Christmas. SO you can imagine my disappointment that my Christmas baby didn’t even arrive to celebrate with us. Instead I was just huge and really quite depressed. Every day overdue is torture emotionally. She finally came the day before new years, so pretty much the holidays just came and went without me caring much at all. Praise the Lord, they let me bring her home a little early so that I could celebrate new years eve not in the hospital. The fun thing is, that that this year is her FIRST Christmas, and she is already having so much fun, with the tree and gifts being around. It wouldnt have been quite as fun for her last year if she had been only 5 days old.
Jen commented on Dec 30 11 at 9:46 amYes. Yes. YES! I’m just 16 weeks, but we forego a Christmas tree altogether. Thankfully, my grandma gave us a 9″ sparkly tree on Christmas Eve — I’m sure her thought was that we’d set it out on a shelf or an end table next year. Nope – I set that sucker right out on the kitchen counter and called it good for this year :)
