Being Pregnant
Unfortunately Home For The Holidays
We live in Indiana, but most of our family lives in a small town in West Michigan. West Michigan is where we call home, it’s where we grew up. Undoubtedly, it will forever be where I associate home.
It’s also a five hour road trip from where I live.
Next weekend I’ll be 34 weeks along, and my doctor has cleared me for one last trip north for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, for Christmas and New Years, I’ve been told I will have to stay in Indiana. You know, just in case I go into labor and have a baby.
I’m not grumbling over my doctor’s request, I totally get it! Absolutely no part of me wants to go into labor on a snowy road, or hours away from my doctor. It’s just that, you know, I’ve never NOT gone home to Michigan for the holidays.
I feel as if I’m in uncharted territory, planning to spend the holidays in my own home here in Indiana, something I’ve never done before. I’m trying not to get depressed or sad about all the things I’ll miss about the holiday spent in Michigan. Instead I’m trying to be upbeat and maybe start a few traditions of my own. Where do I even begin?
What will we do on Christmas Eve? What should I cook for Christmas morning brunch? Ack! I’ve never had to worry about these details!
I’ve decided to put my “happy holiday big girl pants” on and do my best to make the most about this unique situation. I’m going to do a little extra decorating, make a real effort to bake and cook up some yummy new traditions, and make this the BEST! CHRISTMAS! EVER!
Heck, I’ve even already started listening to Christmas music a week (or two) early.
And who know, maybe we’ll get an unexpectedly early Christmas present, a new little baby born on (or near) Christmas day! Now that wouldn’t be such a bad deal after all…
Will you be traveling for the holidays? Or are you late pregnancy home bound as well this year?

Angie Mullins commented on Nov 20 11 at 9:03 pmI think we’ll make one last trip around Christmas time to see my family….after that we’ll be home bound for sure. I’m 31 weeks right now. Definitely won’t be making it to the family party on New Year’s Day that has become tradition on my Mom’s side over the past several years. Even though G.R. is only 90 minutes away, I really want to deliver at my hospital with my doctor….yada yada….
