Being Pregnant
On Your Feet Gigs
I’m shooting a 4-day long film festival starting today. (No, I’m not a profesh photog. I’m doing a friend a favor… and sticking with my blogging day job.)
I’m nervous and prepping this morning, anticipating fun and excitement but also exhaustion. Lots of exhaustion.
It doesn’t help that I’m juuuuuust about done with the first trimester and on the brink of having my energy back.
I haven’t had an on-your-feet-gig in a while. I think I forgot how to do it.
When I was pregnant with Jackson, I was a full-time teacher and on my feet from 7:30 in the morning until 4 pm. Then I promptly went home and collapsed.
Granted, this gig isn’t going to be along the lines of full-time teaching, but I am going to be on my feet for hours at a time today through Sunday, lugging camera equipment, squatting here and there. (Cute visual, eh?)
I’ve skimped down on my gear that I’m bringing with me so that I’m not hauling around tons of camera lenses, flashes, bags, etc. The bag that will stay on me has a nifty pocket for my water bottle (bonus!) and some snacks (hello almonds).
What am I forgetting about?
What tips do you have for me so that I remember to take care of myself while also focusing on doing a good job at my favor-job?
Those of you who are photogs, how do you survive multiple-day-long jobs like this one while also taking care of yourself and your fetus?

dearcrissy commented on Oct 13 11 at 12:10 pmI was shooting weddings (15-hour-days) well into my third trimester last time, and it wasn’t easy. The constant stooping caused a lot of BH contractions. Just be sure to drink a lot of water, if you can stomach it (water made me sick in the first trimester), and try to take breaks when you can!
mybottlesup commented on Oct 13 11 at 2:56 pm@DEARCRISSY- omg 15 hour days!!! third trimester!!! oh woman… i bow to thee. thank you for the tips. i always feel a bit awkward taking breaks during gigs like this, but i think they will be necessary. and? it’s a good thing water does not make me sick. :) thanks again!
Katy commented on Oct 14 11 at 6:17 amI’m going out to do my first photo shoot since June today, and I’m now 32 weeks! I put myself on a break, but now it’s time to get a few in before I’m really out of commission. I was a little worried about being on my feet, running around after kids, would be tough… but you just reminded me that since I teach full-time right now, I’m probably used to it! And yes, I’m sure I will promptly come home and collapse, too!
