Being Pregnant
Summery, Second-Trimester Staples (Non-Maternity!)
There’s definitely some bulging around the midsection, but at 17 weeks, it’s still not quite a bump. To avoid the frump, I’m sticking with some roomy non-maternity but maternity-friendly styles this summer … while I can.
With good accessories, I get to put the punch (and the waistline) where I want it. And with careful sizing and sweaters, some of these items will last through fall—fingers crossed.
Here are some pieces that seem to be working for me in my slowly-growing second trimester:
.
Angled slub tee at Anthropologie, $29.95
Classic shirt dress at L.L. Bean, $79
Drawstring shorts at Loft, $44.50
Work shirt at ModCloth, $42.99
Knit maxi dress at J. Crew Factory, $29.50 on sale
Cotton pencil skirt at South Moon Under, $58
Structured, Tunic-length pullover at Lands End, $44.50
Casual maxi skirt at Piper Lime, $58.99 on sale
Now, time to follow my own rules. Any other shapes working with your bump, or lack thereof?

And a warning about that Anthropologie tee…it runs small!
alismith commented on Jul 12 11 at 11:53 pmThanks, Dissy. I hate to complain because I’m happy to be pregnant, but I’d prefer a bump to my muffin top. :)
Louise commented on Jul 13 11 at 9:46 amI can’t wear most non-maternity clothes. I’m 18 weeks and I have a definite bump. It is probably because I’m 5’0″ and have a short torso. I was eating at a restaurant this weekend and the waiter asked me if I was having a boy or a girl. I did not tell him I was pregnant.
