Third Trimester Joy: Someone Punched Me In The Vagina

2125286864 e5b50039cd 300x225 Third Trimester Joy: Someone Punched Me In The VaginaWhen it comes to pregnancy and childbirth… there is a lot that gets left out… especially when it comes to all the joys of the third trimester… especially the last couple weeks which I am now knee deep in.

Sunday marked 37 weeks gestation, and it also marked the day where I started to officially feel like Mike Tyson went four rounds with my pelvic bone. I am sure this has to do with the fact that my lovely daughter, unlike any of my other children has nestled her way right into pelvis, but man I feel like someone straight up punched me in the vagina.

I guess that is really the polite way of putting it too, because I could come up with some choice, unlady-like words to describe the way I am feeling these days.

Nope, I am not complaining that she is still in there cooking either. I couldn’t be more happy, not only are we simply not ready for her to grace us just yet, but the longer she stays in there… the more I know she will really be ready to be born once the time comes.

My remedies this week?

A bag of frozen veggies…
Ice Packs…
Lots of baths
Oh, and keeping my husband FAR away from me!

If anyone has any tricks that worked for their crotch comfort, please point me in the right direction, because I am not sure how many more sleepless nights I can take because my daughter wants to set up shop in my lady parts.

A lot of that is from the combination of baby pressure with blood pressure. The more you lie on the couch, preferably on your side, the less it will hurt. I had it pretty bad with my second son and lying down made things somewhat better.

I had the same with my daughter. It was the worst- try chiropracty, cranial sacral massage or Mayan abdominal massage. All three worked wonders. And I swam in any lake, stream, or pond I could find.

Keeping my knees as far apart as possible…Sitting x-legged on something squishy…sleeping with a gynormous pillow or two propped between my legs…getting down on a birth/yoga ball and letting the belly hang a little (but dont let the back bow down), on hands and knees, knees at least sholder width apart, rocking a little (sorta bear hugging it) helped in the last couple of weeks. Certainly helped during labor!

Google “symphasis pubis dysfunction” and maybe a visit to your favorite chiro. I had no idea it wasn’t normal to feel like you’ve been kicked in the groin by a Clydesdale at the end of pregnancy, so I just dealt with it while I was carrying my youngest baby. Unfortunately for me, it didn’t go away after she was born. It wasn’t until many months PP when a chiro friend noticed how uncomfortable I was when I squatted or stood up from a sitting position. It took a few adjustments, but within a week, I felt better than I had in about a year.

In the interim, keep your knees together as much as possible when bearing weight (getting out of bed, getting up from the potty). It will help divert some of the strain that is being put on your pubic bone. Ice is wonderful! Heat can be nice, too. I always felt good after stretching (lunging like Spider-Man or a few rounds of the Captain Morgan position).

Hope it resolves itself soon!

Ha ha haa! You took the words right out of my mouth – literally! I am 31 weeks, but am feeling the sore vagina already. I swear to you, the other morning I asked my husband, “Did you punch me in the vagina at some point and I not know it?” I’m right there with ya!!

I slept with a pillow under my hips so that gravity tilted the baby back up towards my head.. It did fix it but it helped me sleep.. My sweet boy nestled in and dropped at 29 wks and I gave birth at 37 wks after my water broke.. Good luck
