The Real Reason Pregnant Woman Shouldn’t Lay on Their Back!

89757941 b3dffd19e2 300x254 The Real Reason Pregnant Woman Shouldnt Lay on Their Back! You know how they always tell you not to lay on your back while you are pregnant?  Something to do with circulation right?   I call bull on it all!

I discovered the real reason that pregnant women should avoid laying on their back, and I did that around 4am this morning while struggling to get out of bed to go pee for the 14th time.

I rolled over once, working my way towards the edge of the bed, and found myself on my back… but I was stuck…

I was trapped like a turtle stuck on its shell… you know you have seen it before… upside down, helpless until someone helps them along… and back onto their feet.

That was me, with a full bladder, and no one to call for help since my husband was in a deep sleep on the couch!

Eventually I made it off my back and sat up and was able to finally make it to the bathroom, thankfully before this problem created another problem!

Oh the joys of the third trimester!

Heh, I’ve nearly had that problem myself… had to swing my legs around to gain enough momentum to get up!

I have always wondered why they tell us not to lay on our backs during pregnancy, and then when we get to the hospital the first thing they do is have us lie flat on our backs for hours at a time to give birth! Make up your mind!

@Wild – Well if you want to get “technical” about things… the laying on the back can restrict blood flow, which could impact the baby… but I agree about the hospital. The lithotomy position (on your back, legs in the air) is the WORST position to give birth in… from a medical stand point.

I strained my lower abdominal muscles something fierce while trying to right by turtle self at night to go to the bathroom. The strain plaiged the last part of my 2nd trimester and my entire abreviated 3rd trimester, it was very uncomfortable. I had to ask for help getting up because of it.
