Being Pregnant
How Many Babies Does Facebook Make?
What would you say if I told you one new report says 25% of “hook ups” are now starting on facebook?
Well if you are anything like the birth junkie I am, you will also automatically think… Wow! I wonder how many babies facebook is producing annually? I must admit, my oldest just may be considered a Myspace baby. My husband and I were friends for years, and lost contact when he went into the Marines.
I mean, being stationed in another country with lack of communication doesn’t really do wonders for friendships right? So when I saw him on Myspace a couple years later, of course I sent him a message… who wouldn’t? Especially after a bad breakup.
We started hanging out, and the rest really was history. And I am sure facebook is facilitating the same kind of reunions, but it is also setting up some hook ups that are less than romantic. And we all know where there is sex… sometimes babies come next. Heck, some are even going on facebook to locate prostitutes… what?! Is this the new Craigslist?
So do you know anyone with a child that is the product of social media of some type?
Facebook, Twitter, Myspace?

Ashley commented on Feb 07 11 at 2:55 pmOmg! The same thing happened to me and my husband. We were friends and then lost contact when I left for college. Two and half years later, he ran across my Myspace profile and messaged me. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
Candice commented on Feb 07 11 at 3:09 pmMy son is a MySpace baby. :)
Mallory commented on Feb 07 11 at 3:44 pmMySpace marriage and baby just like yours.
Francesca commented on Feb 07 11 at 4:49 pmMyspace marriage and one two year old and one on the way. We worked together about 9 years before and liked each other but I was moving to Spain and he had a girlfriend at the time. So not the right timing. 9 years later we myspaced each other and by chance a few months later ran into each other at a bar and we have been inseparable! Thanks social media!
allison commented on Feb 07 11 at 5:20 pmour marriage soon to be born baby is credited to match.com… not social media but an internet connection none-the-less :)
Julie commented on Feb 08 11 at 7:50 amMy husband and I ‘talked’ through old school AOL in the 90s. So I guess our 3 kids are AOL babies.
Jenny B commented on Feb 08 11 at 12:03 pmWhen we volunteered with the marriage ministry at our church, the director told us repeatedly that a very high percentage of the adultery issues they deal with are a result of Facebook. Now they actually mention it in the premarital classes as a risk to be aware of. Very sad :(
H commented on Mar 03 11 at 7:06 pmIn response to jenny- I’m sorry but your post (as sad as it is) made me laugh. If you are posting on-line what you are doing, you deserve to get caught. It is even more funny that they tell you to watch out in premarital classes!!
But on the subject… I have two friends that have committed relationships due to facebook (babies soon to come, I’m sure).
Debra commented on Mar 12 11 at 12:41 pmWe reconnected after almost 19 years through facebook, and we are pregnant with our first child together. We dated in high school.
April commented on Mar 16 11 at 12:24 amFacebook may be responsible for babies in another way besides connecting couples. I wonder how many existing couples who are debating having another child are swayed by their friends’ adorable baby photos? :) Every time I see a sweet baby photo I start to want another!
Catronia commented on Mar 16 11 at 5:44 pmI met my husband thru a chat room on AOL, so I guess our son is an old school AOL baby…lol
christina commented on Mar 31 11 at 2:36 pmmy baby is a qeep baby
Kaeli commented on Mar 31 11 at 5:44 pmMy fiance and I met 4 years ago on myspace through a mutual friend that we both RANDOMLY met on myspace.. Double-myspace! lol our Myspace accounts have since been neglected, but we’re still going strong! We’ll be married & TTC this June!
Amy commented on Apr 18 11 at 5:16 pmNot AOL…but just as old (from the 90′s)…hubby and I met thru talking on IRC (internet relay chat). My BF at the time used it to talk with all of his high school friends, and both my now husband and I were in the chat room with them. Almost 16 years later, we’re married and just had our 2nd baby!
As an aside…I agree that Facebook makes me want more when I see all of my friends kids too :)
Angelica commented on Apr 20 11 at 2:01 amNewborn next to me right now due to Myspace AND Facebook!! Fiancè and I had highschool crushes on each other, that were never revealed to one another, and about 8 years later he friend requested me on Myspace. We had a few normal “How’s your life been treating you?” messages and lost touch due to a dislike for Myspace for several months, with plenty of time for both of us to convert to Facebook….
One night, as a single and ballsy woman might do, I dyed my hair firey red and posted a few pictures on my fresh FB profile and (gasp!) he sent me a message, saying that he had a secret to tell me. That he had a major crush on me in high school and could never make a move (almost like he read my journal from 8-9 years before) and I was floored! We started casually speaking, which led to courtship, which led to dating, which led to conception. We now have a beautiful two-month-old baby girl <3…. So, thank heavens for social networking. And thank heavens for eye-catching red hair dye!!!
HMW commented on Apr 24 11 at 9:19 amSort of an old-skool story: DH and I actually MET in real life (in 1996) but due to our working schedules did a lot of our early communication on AOL – we’ve been together ever since, married for almost 13 years now and expecting our second child in July ;^)
I must admit, like April, I’m a little curious how many babies are…..inspired by FB and other social sites….passive peer pressure? Ya know…..”But all my FaceBook friends are having babies!!” – lol!
Sherri L commented on Aug 28 11 at 9:43 pmMy husband and I met in real life in ’06 but never really noticed each other. In ’08 I found him on Myspace (not knowing we had met before) and messaged him. We have been together for 3 years in Oct. and were married July 23rd 2011. TTC our first now.
Jamie commented on Sep 20 11 at 4:03 pmMy husband and I met on Facebook, about a year and a half ago. He was new to town and used the old “I am looking for friends line” and I fell for it, of course. Once I finally had the guts to meet him, that was it, we’ve been together just about every day since then. We got married July 7th, and are 7 weeks pregnant :D
