Being Pregnant
3 Products to Ease Morning Sickness
While I was one of the lucky ones to only have a week or so of pregnancy nausea, I’ve known women who had morning sickness throughout the entire first trimester — and one unlucky woman who was continuously nauseous for six months straight. And then there are the extremely (and I mean ex-treme) unfortunate women who have such severe morning sickness — known as hyperemesis gravidarum — that they need serious cancer-level medication for some relief. (This woman even considered terminating her pregnancy because of it.)
For those with a more normal yet semi-debilitating form of pregnancy nausea — especially for those of us with an older child to take care of and, you know, a job to hold down — there are plenty of products that promise relief.
Here are some tried-and-true, pregnancy-safe anti-morning sickness remedies, as well as tips to alleviate your temporary yet torturous situation:
Preggie Pop Drops are a popular “must-have” on many pregnant women’s lists, made from evaporated cane juice, brown rice syrup and all natural flavorings. Not only do the flavors reduce nausea, but the small serving is believed to help, as is the aromatherapy of the drops. The sugars in Preggie Pop Drops also might prevent hypoglycemia, which is a possible cause of morning sickness.
If Preggie Pop Drops aren’t your thing, B-natal Therapops contain vitamin B6 and sugar — both of which are thought to be the best remedy for morning sickness.
And if the thought of sucking on a lozenge seems unfathomable, many pregnant women swear by these PSI bands – which is a drug-free wristband that uses acupressure to relieve nausea and vomiting. You can even control the pressure of these multi-designed bands with a dial.
For more tips on morning sickness remedies, Danielle put together a comprehensive list here. And Ceridwen suggests that there might be a morning sickness miracle pill — but you have to make it yourself.
There are plenty of other natural methods people use to cope, like gingerale, Saltines and, as controversial and illegal as it is, marijuana. What about you? What did you use for morning sickness?

Steph commented on Feb 03 11 at 9:40 amWhen you are in the grips of all-day pregnancy sickness no little bit of sugar and ginger or sea-sickness bands are going to do anything. Head straight for the Dicelctin and Zofran, I say! All these lovely natural remedies help me only when I’m perfectly functioning and just feeling a little off, not when I’m on-the-couch-and-can’t-stand-up-without-vomiting sick. Making sure I eat regularly also combats the sickness better than what I actually eat.
WildernessBarbie commented on Feb 03 11 at 5:57 pmI had horrible morning (ha!) sickness for 16 weeks, lost 13lbs. I tried SeaBands and they worked OK but made the back of my hands very tender. Acupuncture worked very well… she left these tiny tacks in my wrists (same spot the bands hit) and some tiny beads stuck to my ears I could press when I felt nauseous… the ones in my ears would work instantly and the ones in my wrists kept things to a dull roar. In fact, one day I started feeling a lot more nauseous again and I realized one of the tacks had come out. Put another one in and felt better. You don’t have to believe in it for it to work either.
Benadryl at night, Ondansetron when desperate, peanut butter crackers (sugar, fat protein, carbs, all in perfect snack size) fruit, lemon flavored cold water, B6. Those Preggie Pops are a scam, they’re just very over priced lolly pops/lozenges, about a dollar a piece for the pops. Helps to keep you hydrated, bad tastes away, and smell good is all. Try some lemon/fruit hard candies first… much cheaper.

Mom2B commented on Jun 03 11 at 6:02 pmI had a severe case of hyperemesis gravidarum… 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. A nurse-midwife at my MD’s birthing center here in South Florida gave me some Pyrofol (http://www.denveshealwellsupply.com/pyrofol.php) to try and my symptoms went away in about 18-24 hours. I had mild to moderate nausea off and on again throughout my pregnancy and Pyrofol worked everytime with me. It’s just B6 and B12 but the delivery is unique in that it is a fast-melt tablet and does not require drinking any liquids to ingest. You just pop it in your mouth and let it dissolve on your tongue and it is absorbed by the body very quickly. So tyour gag reflex is not triggered. And it has a pleasantly mild grape flavor too!
