Pregnancy Olympics: Shaving

2978850728 dbe8c50e83 233x300 Pregnancy Olympics: ShavingI knew over the next week I would be seeing various doctors, whether it is my urologist, an on call provider in the hospital, my midwife, or whoever this blasted kidney stone is going to bring me in contact with, so I thought it would be a great idea to try to shave my legs. Key word in that phrase: try.

I am sure if anyone was an outsider watching the project, it would have looked pretty damn comical. Let me set the scene.

Nearly 26 weeks pregnant, no longer able to see too far down below, sitting on the side of my retro 1950′s bathtub that came with the house…

Razor… check
Husband’s electric razor… check
Shaving cream… DAMNIT we ran out!
Bar of soap? … Check
Wash cloth… Check

Ok, Well I guess I am ready…

Turn the water on, and instead of the warm water I was expecting, my legs get pelted with freezing cold water despite running to warm up for a whole 30 seconds. Someone must have been doing laundry! UGH!  Hey, I should just be happy my husband was helping out around the house while I am under the weather.

Then the real fun came… trying to position myself in such a way that I could actually get all the way down towards my feet, all the way around my leg, and not slice some kind of muscle or something that makes me able to walk during the process.

Eventually I did really the best that I could without slipping or breaking a bone on top of my bum kidney… can you imagine the headlines that would have made?  Pregnant woman seriously injured in home while SHAVING… Totally my kind of luck these days.

Although I am just happy I can continue to poke fun at myself while experiencing more pain than my last c-section brought me, praying this little grain of sand passes quickly before I take matters into my own hands.

Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m super stretchy, but I have never had an issue shaving while pregnant. Sure I had a huge belly in the way (and with my second – i do mean HUGE), but I never really had a problem maneuvering around it.
I’m sure it can be frustrating, but I really find it funny when others talk about it.

I pretty much gave up. Granted I didn’t have the extra urology appointments, but I figured anyone who ended up down that would probably expect that things wouldn’t be impeccably groomed.

I told my husband that it’s his job to shave me, um, well, you know, when I’m about to deliver our next child. HBAC or VBAC or not, I’m going to be prepared!!

@Tina – LOL! My husband has offered to help me shave, but I am not sure I exactly trust him… One small slip and I may be damaged for life! LOL

What a timely post. Even though I’m been working out and stretching regularly during my pregnancy I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t even soap my legs much less shave. I ended up having to bribe my son with the promise of blackberries so that he’d go with me to Super Target after school so I could pick up a scrubbie on a stick for washing my legs. My dh is going to have to shave them from now on. I have no idea what I look like in any other place down there so I’m pretending like it isn’t a problem. Sometimes denial is a good thing.

I had kidney stones while pregnant with my 2nd. As though you don’t have enough to deal with while pregnant!

I can totally relate to the whole shaving thing and it’s SO FRUSTRATING! Here’s another thing: During a routine OB visit about a month and a half ago, my OB had to PART MY HAIR to get “in there” if you know what I mean? Well, I realized that I was LONG overdue for a wax so I contacted a local salon and booked a brazilian. Half way through my wax, the waxer (whatever you call those ladies), got all wide-eyed like there was a baby coming out of my hoo-haa. She calmly said, “You’re bleeding”. I had apparently developed a skin-tag during this pregnancy and it had ripped nearly OFF. Needless to say, we didn’t get to finish the wax and I had to go see my OB to have her cut my little friend off. I’m now half-hairy with a scar. *sigh*

I sat down in our shower stall to shave a couple of days before i was due. I could not get back up, or even move around. Luckily my husband was home to help get me out.
