Your Astrological Signs May Not Be What You Think… Meet Ophiuchus, The Dark Horse of Zodiac Signs
I’ve already professed my ambivalence about astrology, especially when it comes to babies. But I must admit that my interest was piqued by this new story saying we may have our astrological signs all wrong. Apparently, there’s a theory among astrologers that the equatorial alignment of the earth has changed since the zodiac signs were introduced 3,000 years ago. This tilt has shifted the relationship of the earth to the sun, and the astrological signs have changed accordingly. And some astrologers believe there should actually be 13 astrological signs, including the little known sign Ophiuchus.
Ophiuchus falls between Scorpio and Sagittarius, and it’s so hard to spell I’m surprised that so many people have been able to Google it. Thank goodness for cut and paste. And though I can’t offer spelling help for those of you who may have babies born under this sign (in case it takes off), I’m happy to be able to tell you how to pronounce it:
OFF-ee-YOO-kuss. Phew. I was a little worried about that CH, especially as those babies will be born during phlegm season.
According to astrologer Parke Kunkle, the new arrangement of astrological signs reads as follows:
Capricorn: Jan. 20 – Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 – March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18- May 13
Taurus: May 13- June 21
Gemini: June 21- July 20
Cancer: July 20- Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10- Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16- Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30- Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23- Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29- Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17- Jan. 20
So according to this guy, whatever you’ve read about your astrological sign is probably wrong. Now that I’m a Leo, I’m feeling so much more confident! And I now understand why I’m so bossy. And messy! I’m not a Virgo! I feel less stressed out already. And my daughter is no longer a Scorpio as the notoriously difficult sign only applies to one week in this arrangement. Does that mean she won’t be as “challenging”? Somehow I doubt it.
What does this mean for you and your baby and your astrological relationship? Well, look at it this way. If you want to find a way of applying zodiac signs to try to interpret your personalities, you now have more options. If one astrological system doesn’t seem to fit, you can always try the other one!

Nakira commented on Jan 13 11 at 12:43 pmi really dont think this is right you cant just take 3,000 year old zodiac signs and decide to change them just because one person thinks that there wrong about the signs… this was 3,000 years ago.. and the tilt just happend so it might change for the children that are being born today but thoes off us that where born before this all started we still have our original signs because thoes are the signs that we where born under so thoes shouldnt change..i think just the children born these present days should be put under the new signs but not us. my birthday is jan 22 i am an aquarius it says now i am a capricorn but there is no way aquarius describes me down to the T and capricorn is the total oppisite of what i am so i dont see how you could change something that has been in effect for thousands of years
Matthew Currie commented on Jan 13 11 at 2:35 pmOphiuchus is a big crock. I’ll be discussing this with former “Vanity Fair” astrologer Michael Lutin on my show tonight: http://t.co/81LZdpu

Aili commented on Jan 13 11 at 4:08 pmYAY! I am not stubborn!! I knew I was not all the things my husband accuses me of! I am now a Libra, not stubborn (I always said it was tenacity), jealous (just protective), or moody (I have more than one feeling, unlike him). :) I can’t wait to share this with him!! LOL!
Sonya commented on Jan 13 11 at 4:36 pmThis correction was made like a hundred years ago in Indian astrology.
blackbeauty commented on Jan 13 11 at 4:48 pmPersonally I feel like it’s some B.S.. How after 3,000 yrs you change the zodiac signs.. WTF, I personally don’t do the whole astrology thing, but I did know that for 22yrs i’ve been an Aquarius, and then a week b4 my 23rd bday people saying that the signs have changed.. That’s just crazy! Did they not know that the Earth was moving and still is moving… Just leave stuff along sometime
joe commented on Jan 13 11 at 5:39 pmyou people are dumb change like this just doesn’t happen over night or it hasn’t happened while any of us have been alive. 3000 years is a long time, for those of you who think that, you should be more worried about your level of education than your zodiac!!! also for a shift in axis such as it would take for same results to have just happened, would have destroyed everything as we know it (this is to you nakira, really) you were not born before this all happened, it has been happening over the 3000 year period slowly each year. oh and just because its been in effect for thousands of years it has to be accurate just like the earth was flat right wow, time changes everything the zodiac is not exempt. its called change people it happens every day and if you cant learn to live and move with it then you will always be livin in the past…
Astronomy commented on Jan 13 11 at 6:35 pmThis is just silly. The whole idea of the astrological signs is from which constellation the sun passes through. Thousands of years ago when people first developed the idea of astrology, the sun would pass through, for example, Leo and anyone born during that time was considered a Leo. Yes, things have changed but this slight shift happens gradually and will always continue to happen. 3000 years from now it’ll be different than it is today. So really, I do not see how we can connect a sign to personality and how there is suddenly a new sign.
PS – What is with all the mentions of astrologers? Isn’t it the astronomers who figured this out?
;)
susan commented on Jan 13 11 at 9:21 pmI don’t think its very fair that one person can just change the whole zodiac signs. In one day. I’m staying the same sign I was born under and adding a new sign now is just stupid to me at this point in time. What’s next are they going to add more planets and say that stars are not real. Or we don’t have as many moons n suns as they say there are out there. I really don’t think people know what out there n they just make stuff up to cause an up roar among people they just need to leave things alone n let us live are lives till the planet earth blows up or what ever its going to do is my option.
marilynn commented on Jan 13 11 at 10:55 pmi think its just stupid that one guy can change the whole thing. i dont care what anyone says im still the fabulous Scorpio i know i am. now they’re saying im a Libra? i dont even act like a Libra like forreal tho.
zack commented on Jan 14 11 at 6:50 pmMan You guys makin such a big deal out of a little sign that someone says you are. You are who you are. And Maybe the zodiac shouldve been changed along time ago. If it takes 1000s of years to change the earths wobble then these signs shouldve have been changed like 20 years ago or more.
