Being Pregnant
Supermodel Baby Name Inspiration
Reading New York magazine last night I came across The Faces of Fashion, an amazing photo spread by Andreas Laszlo Konrath. The pictures are great– all fab backstage shots at Lanvin, Givenchy, Prada, Galliano… Lots of designers and eccentric characters including a blue-haired elderly lady in fur.
Anyway, the reason I’m writing about this here is that in amongst all the tulle and tartan I found some serious baby name inspiration.
The fashion world can be a brilliant source for exotic names. The designers: Viktor, Rolf, Muccia, Issey? So great! And the models’ names were almost all fabulous. While probably dead common in whatever country these gorgeous women come from, names like Ajak and Julija sound most spectacular to me.
Here’s a complete list of every model included in the portfolio:
(I left in the American-sounding ones like Lindsay, Eliza and Madisyn just for fun–our biggest supermodel names are Christy, Cindy and Linda, after all–but most of these names are Serbian or Scottish or German or Ukranian… )
Iselin
Julija
Coco
Anna
Frida
Ajak
Natalia
Siri
Olga
Iris
Martha
Agnyess
Lindsey
Karlie
Bianca
Liu
Abbey
Eliza
Madisyn
Hanne
Freya
Ginta
Isabella
Karmen
OK, maybe it’s a tiny bit pretentious to call your American daughters Iselin and Hanne with absolutely no cultural connection to the names, but how lovely are they?! Any takers?
