Nap Nanny Recall After Tragic Death

napnanny Nap Nanny Recall After Tragic Death There’s a little sleeping contraption called a “Nap Nanny”  that has been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission after a four month-old Michigan baby suffocated in one. The Nap Nanny is designed to prop a baby’s head up at a slight angle which can sometimes help with reflux. The product was not designed to be used as a crib or in a crib.

The baby who died was hanging over the edge of the “Nap Nanny,” pressed against a crib-bumper. The cause of death was suffocation. The CPSC is aware of 22 similar cases, and is, with the cooperation of Baby Matters– the manufacturer of the Nap Nanny– recalling 30,000 of the products.

It’s a terrible, horrible, no-good story. If you’re feeling nervous about safe baby sleep there are lots of really great resources out there to help you set up a good sleeping arrangement. Here and here are great places to start. It’s generally a good idea to have a baby in a sleep situation that is firm and minimal and doesn’t involve crevices and pillows and bumpers where a baby can get stuck.

For more information, contact Baby Matters by calling (888) 240-4282 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by visiting their website at www.napnanny.com/recall.

the nap nanny recall happened because some idiot parent decided to put it in a crib with bumpers. i have nothing against crib bumpers, as i used them with my daughter, but to put the nap nanny in the crib? the parent should have been punished, not the makers of nap nanny.
