The Baby’s in on the Birthday Secret

I know something you don't know!
HI ADDIE! Your baby sister here, you know what’s really amazing about being mom’s right hand baby while you’re away at school during this time of year? I know everything you’re getting for Christmas and even better I know everything you’re getting for your birthday on Wednesday. I know where your presents are hidden (the garage and mom’s closet) and I know all about her grand plans for your cake. I’ve helped her wrap something you don’t even know about and today I got under the tree and helped you unwrap something grandma sent you. Apparently I wasn’t supposed to do that (But I know what it is and I’m going to want it in a few years!)
Sure, I can keep all these secrets because I’m not really capable of talking yet, but heart to heart, sister to sister, I have to tell you. Mom’s a little offended you want a store-bought cake instead of one she makes you.
Baking with Baby. Today, Santa’s Favorite Christmas Cookie
Look, I may only be seven months old but I have a big sister, and she’s explained to me how things work at this time of year. Christmas Eve we leave treats out for Santa, he comes down our chimney and leaves us some Christmas presents. Obviously there isn’t much that I want that my mom can’t provide for me: a clean diaper, snuggles, a warm bed and a full belly … but let’s be real here. I’ve had my eye on that Sophie the Giraffe toy for MONTHS now. All my friends talk about how great she is and that I really should have one.
In an effort to win Santa over and finally get one of those silly little giraffe toys in my mouth I decided to bribe the big man with some amazing cookies he can put in his mouth, thus proving who really deserves a new giraffe toy this Christmas.
Pie, Pie Baby.

Not your average apple or pumpkin pie.
Last week I was all about the Zebra Cake I found on Pinterest. And for Thanksgiving? Two words: Pinterest pies. Little known fact about me, I have more than 10 blue ribbons from the state fair for baking. I have also won several pie bake-offs and second place in a nationally sponsored chocolate championship.
I know how to bake, and I know how to bake well.
Addie has been in the kitchen with me since she was old enough to stand on a chair and she can saute, puree and frappe better than my grown sister. It’s important to me that both my girls know how to cook and even more importantly that they understand the science behind cooking so they can take their favorite things and make them even better. Nothing makes me happier than hearing “This is the best ______ I’ve ever had.”
So when it comes to the holidays and pies? Y’all, I take my pies seriously.
Baking With Babies. Today? Zebra Cake.
By now almost everyone is familiar with Pinterest. A site full of the most beautiful of whatever you happen to be looking for. I have a board for Vivi, a board for Addie and a board where I have ‘pinned’ things I have tried. My goal is to attempt at least one ‘pin’ a week. So far all but one have been a raging success. I’ve enlisted Addie’s help where I can and when she saw a striped cake? She was all for it. Yesterday we were having several guests over for dinner and I figured it would be the perfect time to try out the infamous Pinterest zebra cake.
Cookies, Cats and Winning Babies
Hey guys, Vivi here. Remember when I was all “HEY SISTER! PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEE!” earlier? Well it turns out that the cats have a bit of an advantage on me in that they can walk themselves to the front door as soon as she gets home from school. I’m pretty wicked at rolling, but those cats are going to get me when it comes to speed every time. So I started to think “What do I have that those cats don’t? HOW CAN I WIN?”
The answer?
Opposable thumbs and a face no one can say no to.
I’m pleased to report at the end of the day the score stands at Cats: 0 Me: 1
