Help Me Pick A Baby Gate!
We are in full baby-proof mode over here. After Cullen gave me a huge scare with the staircase, I immediately sat down and opened up my Amazon window. We need baby gates much sooner than later!
A quick browe through Amazon left me sort of blurry, and Consumer Reports made me even more aware of all the many different options available. How do I choose something that seems sort of important? Continue reading »
The Time He Almost Crawled Down The Stairs…
Cullen is completely mobile now. We’re talking dont turn your back for a minute type mobile.
It seems like babies change overnight, but we parents take a few days and weeks to catch up. I keep finding myself putting Cullen down in places and then realizing he could fall, or walking away then looking back to see him half-way down the hall. Just because he decided to start full-blown crawling this week, I hadn’t quite caught up with the whole baby-proofing thing.
But this morning he gave me quite the scare! Continue reading »
My First Mother’s Day
A first mother's day to remember!
Last year on Mother’s Day, I was in Cincinnati celebrating with my own mom. I was 17-weeks pregnant at the time, but I didn’t really feel like a mom yet. Instead, I celebrated the wonderful woman who has given me so much. This year there is no question – I am most definitely a mom. Casey asked me if I wanted to spend the day being pampered with pedicures and massages, but all I really wanted was a day outside in the sunshine with my family. And so we did exactly that. Six Months and Standing Up!
These days it feels like one milestone after another. Cullen is right at that age where suddenly he’s gone from a wiggly worm on the floor, to a scooting, climbing little boy. It feels like it happened overnight!
He’s up and crawling on his knees full time now – the army crawl is so two weeks ago. But it seems like just as soon as he’s mastered a new skill, he is already working on what’s next. A few weeks ago it was sitting, which turned into crawling. Now the new trick is pulling up on eveeeeeerything.
This weekend I looked into the baby monitor and had quite a scare! Continue reading »
Shopping Like A Big Boy!
Last week Cullen and I were strolling through Trader Joe’s – him in his car seat taking up half my grocery cart, and me trying to balance groceries around him in what little space I had left. As we shopped, I noticed another mom with a similarly sized baby – but this little girl was sitting in the actual seat attached to the cart.
It’s funny how being a mom has somehow broken any boundaries I once had when approaching strangers. ”How old is your baby, if you don’t mind me asking?” She answered, “six months!” I came to find out this little one girl sitting proudly in her big girl seat was just five days older than Cullen (who was hanging his head in shame from inside the cart).
Huh. I hadn’t even considered that he was old enough to sit in the big boy seat. But he is sitting up on his own now, so it makes sense that he could just as easily sit in the cart. On today’s shopping trip, we gave it our first go… Continue reading »
Do You Make Your Own Baby Food?
Now that Cullen is eating solids, I’m reading and trying to learn as much as I can about what I should be feeding him. Pretty much everything I read tells me I should be blending, mashing, and pureeing my own baby food into little freezable containers. The books and websites make it seem so simple.
These days, I think it’s really easy to question if, as parents, we are doing all the “right” things for our babies. It’s easy to look around and feel like everyone else is supermom. I stay at home with Cullen. I take him to story times. We play in the park. I do the cloth diapering. I really feel like I’m doing the best that I can do.
And while I do plan to make him some homemade baby food and have fun with some baby-led weaning, is it so bad that I’m also considering buying a few jars of the premade stuff just to make life a little bit easier? Continue reading »
Solid Food Setbacks
We’ve been doing solids for two weeks now, and I was so excited that we finally bit the bullet and got started. The first week, I gave Cullen a mixture of oatmeal cereal and breast milk, which he seemed to love. I was thrilled that we were off to a good start.
Last week we had a small setback. I heard a strange noise coming through the baby monitor, and rushed up to find Cullen throwing up in his crib. It scared both of us to death. But he had no fever, his spirits seemed fine, and the next day he was back to normal. We figured it was a stomach bug or perhaps too much food (solids plus milk after). Then we had a second setback this morning… Continue reading »
