Babys First Year Blog
Vivi’s 17th and 18th Week of 2012
Whoops! Fell a little behind. An emotional slump and two birthdays six days apart will do that to you. I still managed to take photos, I’ve noticed the more mobile Vivi becomes, the more photos I get of the back of her head. Gone are the days of her sitting there smiling at me, here are the days of her grabbing for my camera and ignoring me. She’s such a marvelous little baby, as summer gets closer and Addie is only a few days away from having the entire summer off I’m filled with both excitement and anxiety. Excitement for the places we can go and the things we can do, things we couldn’t do last year because Vivi was so little and unpredictable. Anxiety from keeping up with all my responsibilities and keeping the two littles entertained. Thankfully Vivi and Addie are each others favorite toys I think I should be okay.
Weeks 17 and 18 involved a marathon, two birthdays, a super snotty nose and some really good naps. Here’s two weeks in 14 photos.
What I Learned About Smash Cake Photo Sessions by Doing One
They’re the new hip thing, or perhaps they’re not all that new, but I had never heard of such a thing when Addie was a baby so they’re new to me. You get a little 6″ or smaller cake on your baby’s first birthday, put it in front of them and let them go to town while a photographer (or you) snaps away at the carnage. Being pretty handy with a camera I knew the hardest part, finding a photographer, was taken care of. I used google and Pinterest to help me with the rest and I learned a thing or two about what to do and what not to do. I also picked up a few preferences of my own and after fantasizing about this photo shoot for at least two weeks, it finally happened. I was worried I had my hopes WAY too high but I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.
One. Whoa.
366 days ago (leap year!) I was pushing a baby out my lady regions at about 8:00 am EST.
Today the baby that came out turns one year old.
ONE YEAR.
How did that happen? Where did it go? I DEMAND A RECOUNT!
Nothing changes faster than a baby in their first year of life. They go from these needy little humans that are somewhat boring, amazing to snuggle and completely reliant on you for all of their entertainment into these bigger little humans that are mischievous, funny, amazing to snuggle and only somewhat reliant on you for all of their entertainment. I look at the new babies joining Baby’s First Year and think “Pfft, they’re such babies! All breastfeeding, colic and learning to roll over.”
Secretly I weep, my baby, while still very babyish – not so much a real baby anymore.
10 Things My Baby Hates About You
You and me specifically. Perhaps me even more specifically since I’m the one on the job 24/7 most of the time, but others have been guilty of pissing Vivi off and woe be unto them for doing such a thing because she has some vocal chords and very little issue with using them. We’re well aware of what a - spirited – baby we have and there’s a very good chance that we’re sooo in for it in the coming (let’s be honest) 17 years.
She may be all sunshine and rainbows on the outside, but under all that adorable charm? Lurks a baby who hates things that I do, that you do, that we all do, and isn’t afraid to show it.
I’m in a Seriously Dirty Relationship

Wool diaper and an amber necklace? Pass the patchouli!
Oh cloth diapers. We were getting along so well. A little stain here, a bit of a leak there, nothing I couldn’t handle. I knew I wanted to get more serious with you but I was nervous, I hope you understand. I mean, it’s one thing, the commitment to you. The financial commitment, the space commitment, the sometimes grody commitment and the laundry commitment. I was good! On all of it! I made room for you in my life and we were getting along so well.
Last night, as you know, I decided to take things a bit further. A little more heavy if you will, and oh how wrong it went.
Babble Best Cloth Diapers 2012: Top Picks for All-in-ones, Prefolds, and More
So you’re considering cloth diapers? Good for you! We promise they’re not as overwhelming as they seem, and once you find what works best for you and your family, you’ll wonder why you ever used disposables in the first place! If you plan on turning to cloth diapers full time, you’ll need a minimum of 12-18 diapers — plus a few overnight options. And although it’s a bigger initial investment than disposables, using cloth diapers will eventually pay off during your diapering years. Besides, any disposable diaper saved from a landfill is a win in our books.
And if you’re already a seasoned cloth diaper expert, we’ve updated last year’s list and found some great new options featuring a broad selection of prints, fabrics, materials, and styles that are sure to please your baby’s bum. Besides, we know that no one diaper is perfect for everyone, so if you’re still on the hunt for the best cloth diaper for your baby — look no further. From the best snap-in cloth diaper to the most stylish, we’ve rounded up our favorites. Check them out, after the jump!
Cotton Babies Daily Snap
Cloth diapers, a company I love, daily inspiration and photography? SIGN ME UP Y’ALL.
I just caught word of the Cotton Babies Daily Snap challenge, similar to the ‘Photo a Day’ challenge everybody seems to be doing but this one has a fun cloth diaper twist (or not, that’s what’s fun! It’s up to you what each word means.) Cotton Babies is responsible for making two of my favorite diapers, the BumGenius 4.0 pocket and the new AIO Freetime. I’ve loved working with them since I met two of the ladies behind the company last August at BlogHer, in fact, they’re the ones that convinced me to give cloth diapering a go.
Last night during their weekly Monday night #clothdiaper twitter party they announced the Daily Snap and while I was considering the regular old photo a day challenge for May, I’ve decided to make the leap over to the #CBSnap challenge, you know, since I’m such a rebel.
Ready to see the list of words for the month?
