Look at those babies!

Teething. Ugh. It could take the most content happy baby and turn him into a clingy grump. At least that’s how Little Bean reacts.

Sometimes I’m just oblivious to things like teething schedules. It’s been so long since my first baby that I forgot when to expect which teeth but after 4 days of Mr. Grumpy pants, I decided to look it up.

First, according to WebMD Baby teeth arrive in this order…

1. The two bottom front teeth (central incisors)
2. The four upper front teeth (central and lateral incisors)
3. The two lower lateral incisors
4. The first molars
5. The four canines (located on either side next to the upper and lower lateral incisors)
6. The remaining molars on either side of the existing line of teeth

The schedule, in order of age, looks something like this…

Lower Central incisor 6 to 10 months
Upper Central incisor 8 to 12 months
Upper Lateral incisor 9 to 13 months
Lower Lateral incisor 10 to 16 months
First Upper molar 13 to 19 months
First First molar 14 to 18 months
Upper Canine (cuspid) 16 to 22 months
Lower Canine (cuspid) 17 to 23 months
Second Lower molar 23 to 31 months
Second Upper molar 25 to 33 months

Of corse every child is different but those are the average.

At this point, Little Bean’s front top are pretty much fully in so I’m guessing his incisors will break through shortly and with all the ear tugging I think we make have some molar movement. Which reminds me, according to eMedTV.com, symptoms ( I was surprised by some of these) include…

• Excessive drooling
• Irritability/crankiness
• Hand biting (your little one may find comfort in shoving their entire fist in their mouth, not just a thumb)
• Biting or chewing on anything
• Night wakening
• Ear pulling;
• Gum rubbing;
• Hardening of the lower gum line
• Facial rash (drool rash)
• Low-grade fever (less than 100.4ºF or 38ºC) — high fever is not a symptom of teething
• Sensitive and painful gums
• Feeding difficulties
• Diaper rash*
• Infant diarrhea*.

Yes, yes, YES to almost all of those!

I need to remind myself that Little Bean’s grumpiness is a sign that something’s bothering him, because I have to tell you, these last few days he’s been quite a handful. It doesn’t help that I haven’t been feeling too well either.

Was your baby affected much by teething? Did they follow the average schedule?
