Awaking Skyewoman’s Big Day
Zhaawanong-Giizhigookwe. Awaking Skyewoman.
Pronounced like: Jhaa-Waa-Nong – Gii-jhuh-go-kwe.
This is her Ojibwe spirit name – my daughter.
Last week I shared my plans with y’all on the creative direction, if you will, of the decor ideas I had for Abby’s naming ceremony.
I executed most of them, with my own twist of course, with a couple dropped by the wayside.
Curious about the details of what a naming ceremony is? Click here.
The day was bright. Electric yet serene. Soul-satisfying. Uplifted by friends, family and community via leadership of our elder.
Timed by ceremony, feast and celebration. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the journey into a little bit of our world. And maybe get some ideas of your own for your little one’s first ceremonies.
