Take Comfort, She Probably Has Spit-Up In Her Spanx

She has a five month old. *sigh*
Did you guys see Jessica Alba on the Golden Globes? *sigh* She’s lovely. Always has been. She came out to present with her boobs where they were supposed to be, her waist visible and not a hair out of place. In protest I looked at my husband and said “BUT…BUT! She just had a baby.” My husband said “I know, I read about her workout and diet regimen the other day.”
He did what? Read about a celebrity? A postpartum diet? A postpartum exercise plan? IS HE TRYING TO TELL ME SOMETHING? I’m still not sure how he came across it but he promised me that he wasn’t doing anything sneaky…he’s a good man and he’s noticed that even I fit back in my regular pants.
Jessica claims that she got back into shape quicker due to not gaining as much weight with her second daughter, doing daily yoga and working out with her girlfriend postpartum.
Normally I’d roll my eyes and say “Uh-huh, SURE THAT’S ALL YOU DID.” But in the same interview I read she said she got ready for the Golden Globes with her two daughters around. I can barely get ready for the grocery store with both girls around. She apparently had to wait until the very last minute to get dressed as her younger daughter is apparently a barfer. So look at that picture above again…she may very well have spit up in her cleavage. Doesn’t that make her much more endearing?
I certainly didn’t gain a lot of weight with my second pregnancy thanks to hyperemesis, but I certainly didn’t shrink back the way I did when I was 22 with my first. My hips are still pretty substantial (the better to carry babies on!) and my boobs are a joke (34F.) Having Vivi on solid foods has forced me to eat better, I try to drink enough water and I am plenty active with carrying a 23 lb. baby up and down the stairs daily. The parts of me that are squashy got that way because they carried my babies full term. It’s hard to get mad at my belly for that. I need to go to bed earlier, remember to take my vitamins and wash my face every night.
Will I ever be back to a size 2 or able to run a marathon? Nope Maybe, but it’s not very high on my priority list, being healthy enough to play with my kids and be around for the birth of my great grandbabies is more than enough motivation to keep me off candy bars for dinner (most nights.) However I’m not sure anything could get me out of my favorite stretchy pants, even the opportunity to be in the same room as Johnny Depp.

Elle commented on Jan 21 12 at 8:46 amYeahhh, I would probably look a LOT better if I hadn’t birthed a 9 lbs 8.5 oz baby 9 days AFTER my due date. But oh well!

Once this baby is born (due March 9th) I swear I’ll be training for a marathon. I don’t want to be a bikini model I just want to feel like I’m in decent shape. Never in my life have I been so miserable – hyperemesis also struck me hard and once that winded down I began having severe round ligament pain. I’ve been promising my body I will be in incredible shape the moment this guy breathes on his own. I’ll never take my health for granted again.
