Snotty nose? Try this trick.

I feel like this is one of those insider tips that are passed down from generation to generation, experienced mom to new mom and I thought it’s about time I share it with all of you too. A girlfriend of mine, a mom of two, shared this with me when Everly was a baby and I’ve never forgotten it!

Arlo and I are battling snotty colds this week and along with that comes TONS of nose wiping. Anyone who has been through this knows how chapped and red it can become under their little noses — the solution — nursing lanolin! If you’re like me, you’ve still got a tube leftover from the early days of breastfeeding. Smear a little bit under and around your little one’s nose and it will help keep the skin moisturized and protect it from the constant wiping. It can prevent chapped skin if you do it from the start, or help protect and heal chapped skin if your baby’s nose is already red.

It’s way better than lotion or any other balm because it’s super thick and waterproof too! Give it a try the next time your little one (or anyone in your family) gets a cold. You’ll be amazed at how well it works!

It also works to treat drool rashes, chapped thumbs and eczema. I’m trying to switch to vasoline for the eczema because the lanolin is so expensive but it’s great for face and hand chapping that I know is likely to end up in his mouth.

I’m not sure if Lucas Paw Paw ointment is available in the US, but here in Australia a lot of mums (me included) use it for everything, rashes, cuts, grazes, nappy rash, lip balm, nipple cream…. I even give a tube for my husband to take to work with him, as he works in the underground mine he’s forever finding an ailment to use it on. It’s also extremely cheap, a small tube can last us 3-4 months and it’s $5 or $11 for a big tub.

It also works great on cradle cap!

I would also like to recommend Boogie Wipes! We use regular tissues for the everyday nose wipes, but when our boy is sick we always use Boogie Wipes. The saline in them helps break up the crusties and the aloe prevents a chapped nose. I pooh-poohed them when I first saw them, but now I recommend them to everyone!

Nosefrida instead of tissues and unpetroleum jelly as a moisturizer!

Ooh, thanks for the tip! My poor little one ALWAYS has a runny nose! I do slather it with coconut oil to help it stay moisturized, but it’s still chapped sometimes… and I do have some leftover Lanolin!

Also, do you use cloth wipes? (I know you cloth diaper.) We like to use those instead of scratchy tissues or much worse, disposable wipes.
