Twins Born in Different Years or a 15 Year Old 60 Year Old.
Today I read an article about a mom who gave birth to twins in different years. Her first son was born at 11:37 pm on December 31, 2011, her second son was born at 12:10 am on January 1, 2012.
Not only were her twin boys born on different days, they were born in different years, I doubt that happens all that often…if ever.
Even better, twin A was the last baby born in that area in 2011 and twin B was the first baby of the new year. The fraternal twins were delivered vaginally, non-medicated and both were breech, hello most interesting birth story of 2012 on the very first day of the year.
I told my husband about this amazing birth day and while he acknowledged that it was pretty cool, he still thinks there’s one birthday that would be better.
2012 is a leap year, meaning a few babies will be born on February 29, 2012. There is only a 1 in 1,461 chance of being born on leap year. (vs. a 1 in 365 chance of having the same birthday as me…April 28…best day ever.) So far it is estimated that 4 million people have been born on February 29th and there’s also an entire society dedicated to leap year babies. Sure it’s cool to have your baby born into a secret birthday society…but I still stand by twins in two different years being niftier.
Seems like there have been a lot of interesting birth days lately, 1/11/11, 11/11/11, then February 29, 2012 and last 12/12/12 (psst, if you want a chance at the 12/12 baby? You’re going to have to get pregnant around March 15…personal experience here.)
What do you think about these super unique birth days? Pain in the butt or the ultimate in unique?

Stephanie commented on Jan 04 12 at 12:21 pmMy due date for number 2 is 3/9/12, so there’s a chance she could be born on Leap Day? But probably not considering that I was induced with my first at 41 weeks. Ten days seems quite a bit of a stretch, but who knows? The twins born on different days in different years is pretty damn cool.
Talia commented on Jan 04 12 at 1:10 pmMy older brother’s birthday is on Leap Day. Believe me, he hates it. He celebrates his 8th birthday this year!
Tina commented on Jan 04 12 at 1:45 pmI will be “8″ this year. No major complaints, but I have had the occasional person think that my ID is fake!
Katie commented on Jan 04 12 at 2:30 pmOooooo! So what about twins with one being born at like 11:40pm on February 29, 2012 and the other being born at 12:10am March 1, 2012… still the same year, but one would be years older than the other down the road. Haha! ;)
I’m a Valentine’s baby and I’ve never minded it! Maybe once on my 19th when I happened to be single and ALL of my friends were either working or with their significant other. That birthday was a bummer! Even my parents went out for dinner… they threw me a pity invite but I stayed home and watched Friends and ate ice cream cake.
Alison commented on Jan 04 12 at 4:48 pmI think they are totally cool when they happen naturally. Now a days people purposely get induced so their baby will have that 11/11/11 birthday. My son was born 1/7/11, (tear, one year already on Saturday!) so I know on the babycenter board everyone was going for the 1/11/11 or 1/1/11 birthdays. They scheduled their c-sections or inductions for those dates, so, totally takes the specialness out when it is planned. haha
Alison commented on Jan 04 12 at 4:50 pmOh, but how cool is this….my son was born on 1/7/11, weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz. and was almost born at 7:11 p.m.! The only reason he wasn’t is because my husband had left to get dinner, both of us thinking it was going to be a long while still, but suddenly he was ready to come out, so we had to wait for him to get back to the hospital!
Erin commented on Jan 04 12 at 8:18 pmI’m due with #2 on 2/27 and am really hoping to NOT deliver on leap day! I know some say it’s not a big deal, but the comments alone would drive me batty – and I KNOW at least my in-laws would be really annoying about it “Oh, it’s not REALLY his first birthday”…. ugh. I have a Christmas bday and that’s never bothered me, but leap day would. Guess I should have considered that when trying to get pregnant! :)
Kellan commented on Jan 06 12 at 7:32 amMy son was born the day before Leap Day nearly 4 years ago. I fervently hoped he wouldn’t be a Leap Year baby! Didn’t want to deal with all the annoying comments, or have to explain why his day disappears for years on end, then magically shows up on every birthday divisible by 4, & I would have stressed about *when* to have his birthday – earlier or later?! – so him being born the day before (didn’t even cut it close: 2:43pm) was a HUGE relief! I prefer the twins on different days & even in different years, lol. I read a birth story recently, how twins were born three (yes, 3) days apart…really cool in one way, not so much in another!
Laura commented on Jan 06 12 at 7:51 amI think it’s awesome my daughter was really close to being a new years baby last year but she wanted to come a day early December 30 I was induced she wasn’t due till the 19th of January which is my grandfathers birthday
Laura commented on Feb 02 12 at 10:41 pmI’m waiting for first baby to get here on Feb23rd. 2012. Good possibility she could come on the 29th..but nothing is scheduled. Totally natural. My b-day is Valentines day and I love it..maybe the little one will come early too and we will share a birthday, I would love that, esp with my first little one :) But I agree with the above, go natural and if something special happens, it happens, but if not… its still your little bundle of joy’s special day and nothing will ever change that!
Sarah commented on Feb 08 12 at 1:56 amI know of some twins that were born in a similar situation, but the years were 1999 and 2000. So, they were not only born on different hours, days, months, or years…they were born in different milleniums! It’s always a fun story to tell. :)
