Acquired Skills

This month you learned how to be the best flight companion your parents could have asked for. You have always enjoyed standing with our help, and this week you have figured out how to stand holding on to furniture. You like to try to pull yourself upright (preferably using the top of my riding boots as leverage). We think you may be walking before you bother with all this army crawling nonsense people like to tell you about.

You learned to stick your tongue out, and it always makes us laugh when you do it. You have learned to grab my legs if I am standing near your seated position on the floor. I love that it feels like you are giving me a hug. You have figured out how lounge out of your seated position to your tummy, but still don’t get what’s so great about being on your stomach.

Food

You have learned that solid foods are fun. Your favorite kinds are the ones you can feed yourself. You will hold and suck on cucumber slices for what feels like hours. These teething biscuits were a big hit. And bananas, avocado, carrots and sweet potato always seem to hit the spot.

You still love to nurse, and have decided your favorite way to do it is if I am laying down and you are sitting next to me. You latch and release and play and eat some more. It seems to make you feel very busy and important. You still wake up to nurse in the night, and that’s ok by me. Every time someone asks me if you are a good sleeper, I tell them you are so good at everything else, I don’t mind that sleeping isn’t your forte.

Favorites

Kitchen utensils reign supreme in your quest for things to play with. Nested measuring cups and spoons can keep you entertained for hours!

Wrapping paper might just be your new favorite toy. This Christmas you spent more time crumpling, ripping, and attempting to eat wrapping paper than time you spent playing with all your toys combined.

You still love to be carried around in the moby. Sometimes people ask me how I can lug your 20 lbs around, but it makes you so happy, I really don’t mind.

Dislikes

You have become accustomed to a constant flow of food while nursing, and can get mightily frustrated when we take too long to feed you a new bite of food.

You cry in your car seat at night when you are in the backseat, maybe because you feel alone.

New Developments

Your bottom teeth came in with little to-do a few weeks ago. Now it’s time to stop accidentally biting me when you nurse, mmkay?
