Yes, Santa IS Visiting The Baby
I know there are a lot of people out there who think buying Christmas presents for a baby is completely stupid, but I have to say this year we are including the baby in our lives on our Christmas list.
When my oldest was born, he was about three-ish weeks old when Christmas rolled around, he had a gift under the tree, but it wasn’t a huge deal. And our middle son had a couple things when his first Christmas came around because he was a little over six months old.
But Addison is almost eight months old, and she is really into her toys, and of course she has two older brothers who are in full on Santa patrol around the house.
So I started thinking like my four year old would. If we got them presents, and not her… he would so be on to us! There would be a million question as to why Addie didn’t get anything when him and Ben got all kinds of cool stuff… so the search began for stuff that would be useful, and she would like.
I had found the perfect “big” gift for her, the Fisher Price my first purse… and then Santa at our fire house got it for her for Christmas. The volunteer fire house my husband is a part of gets a present for every child of the firemen annually for their kids Christmas party.
So when we got the double gift I was back to the drawing board. I ended up settling with the my first tea set by Fisher Price, and I hope she loves it.
But I had to put the question out there to other moms with little ones that are celebrating their first Christmas in a couple days… What is Santa bringing them?
Do you have older children?

Kristen @ The Concrete Runner commented on Dec 22 11 at 10:19 amOur 1st child is only 9 weeks old, and we decided not to get her gifts since (1) being off work 3 months + hospital bills has put us more than a little pressed for cash, and (2) both sets of grandparents are going to spoil her rotten. We are going to put her in front of some wrapped gifts and take her picture so it doesn’t look strange later on in life. I probably will go pick up some stuff that I think she needs, like a wubbanub pacifier, but that’s about it.
Kim commented on Dec 22 11 at 10:44 amWe got my daughter, also almost 8 months old, a few small gifts. We got her a Cardinals tee for the summer and a sock monkey. And daddy got her a small gift that he wrapped and put in her stocking, so cute!! We didn’t get her any toys though because we know the grandparents are taking care of that!!
Bre commented on Dec 22 11 at 12:42 pmMy first baby is almost 8 months old and we went a little crazy…a mini golf set, a walking popper lawn mower thingy, a baby keyboard…I love Christmas and love finding and giving fun gifts. Lucky for my son :)
Ana A. commented on Dec 22 11 at 2:40 pmChloe is almost 7 mo. I wish her grandparents spoiled her but they don’t so that job is left on me. I figure the stuff I got her is stuff I want her to have and would eventually get her anyway so why not get it all now. I love spoiling my kids, my husband on the other hand wishes I didn’t.
TS commented on Dec 22 11 at 3:48 pmMy daughter is just over 6 months old. As she will be having her 1st solid (ok, pureed) food on Christmas, “Santa” opted to get her (and jointly Momma) baby feeding items – spoons, bowls, etc. The little items are in her stocking (unwrapped) and the 2 larger items (booster seat & baby bullet) are wrapped under the tree. We would have had to get these items even without Christmas, so figured it would just do double-duty under the tree.
I didn’t want to get her any toys or books, as she is the first grandchild, niece, great grandchild etc, on ALL sides, and most of the family has already told us how they want to spoil her. However, my partner (who is a kid at heart) couldn’t resist getting her a few toys and books to put under the tree from us.
tammy m commented on Dec 23 11 at 12:11 amEmily is 11 mos old. She is getting a new big girl toothbrush and a few toys. My older child is 16 years. He’d probably be happy if she didn’t get anything! He’s so jealous I’m always getting hand me downs from friends for Emily & nothing for him. Teens were so hard on their stuff, there’s no hand me downs to give!
Brooke commented on Dec 23 11 at 6:37 amI am mostly getting my 6 mos old things I would have probably gotten her anyway. Like socks. But not just any socks. The fancy Trumpette ones I probably wouldn’t have been able to justify any other way. She’s the first grandchild, and so the grandparents, aunts and uncle have the toys all figured out.
Lizzie commented on Dec 23 11 at 10:03 amWe got our 7 month old mostly clothing in the next size up. Our baby shower clothing supply has gone down quite a bit after 6 months sizes. I couldn’t help but get her a little Johnny jump up as her big present. Her cousin has one and she loves to be in it. Grandparents can take care of toys (and college savings!!)
Sara commented on Dec 23 11 at 2:16 pmI got my daughter a pretty new mobile and some beautiful books. We’re pretty low key about christmas, so that will be the sort of gifts she’ll receive all her life. I’m not a ‘gifts piled under the tree’ kind of person.
Daizy Sellers commented on Dec 23 11 at 10:50 pmOur oldest is almost 3 yrs and is being visited by Santa for the first time this year. Our new baby is 4 months old and Santa is not visiting him this year, but next year we won’t be able to get away with it. Of course, it’s definitely been easier to shop for the elder over the baby.
Jenn commented on Dec 26 11 at 12:56 pmI could not imagine not getting a child presents at Christmas no matter what age they are. I bought my kids presents while pregnant with one over Christmas one year.
Megan commented on Dec 27 11 at 2:57 pmI have an 8 year old son , and my daughter is one today. She had almost as much under the tree as her big brother. This may be one of the last years that elder son believes in Santa, so if Santa didn’t bring similar amounts of gifts for the baby he would’ve noticed and questioned. Both kids always get at least one thing to wear and at least one book, stocking stuffers, one big gift, and some smaller toys/games/video games from Santa. They only get one wrapped gift from Mom and Dad, and elder son was given a $30 budget for his Christmas and birthday presents for his baby sister, and was allowed to pick out whatever he wanted as long as there was at least 1 thing for Christmas and 1 thing for birthday. Mom and dad picked the baby’s gift to her brother this year though. I agree with Jenn, i can’t imagine not getting a child any presents at Christmas. We had Christmas presents already bought for the baby last year in case she arrived on or before Christmas.
doreen commented on Dec 29 11 at 2:32 pmMy kids always got presents from when they were born. I always got things they needed like clothes and shoes and then educational toys. Of course they also got things per individual likes. My son always got things like legos, blocks etc. My daughter always got things for artistic people. Everything was age appropriate each year.
