Baking With Babies. Today? Zebra Cake.
By now almost everyone is familiar with Pinterest. A site full of the most beautiful of whatever you happen to be looking for. I have a board for Vivi, a board for Addie and a board where I have ‘pinned’ things I have tried. My goal is to attempt at least one ‘pin’ a week. So far all but one have been a raging success. I’ve enlisted Addie’s help where I can and when she saw a striped cake? She was all for it. Yesterday we were having several guests over for dinner and I figured it would be the perfect time to try out the infamous Pinterest zebra cake.
Addie got home from school, Vivi woke up from her nap and everyone prepared for our bake fest with full tummies and empty bladders. One cannot bake whilst distracted. I had read over the original tutorial and despite the suggestion to adjust the amount of water to the mixes, we went with what was printed on the boxes exactly. The only thing that changed was how we put the cake mixes into the pan and the baking time. All in all it only took ten extra minutes for us to turn two regular Pillsbury cake mixes into a striped cake that even I was impressed with. Addie is convinced I am capable of magic in the kitchen, but what she doesn’t realize is she did just as much as I did.
Vivi just stared at us as we ate cake.
Sorry baby, but at this rate you’re going to have the best first birthday cake ever.
With the flavors available in Pillsbury cake mixes, maybe next time we could try a lemon/strawberry striped cake with cream cheese frosing. Or maybe a golden butter/pineapple and slather it with coconut frosting.
Who’s with me?
Thanks very much to Pillsbury for sponsoring this post and for providing Pillsbury products for me to have some fun with. Check out more posts in this campaign.
