In Which I Question My Sanity as a Mom
Actually, that’s a lie. I already know I’m an insane mom. I just want some verification that I’m not alone.
The past few nights I’ve been waking up SWEARING I hear the baby crying. I fumble in the dark, pick up the video monitor and he’s out cold.
Did he fall back asleep?
Was I dreaming?
I must have been dreaming. Right?
This sometimes happen 2-3 times a night!
WHY am I doing this to myself? I’ve been blessed with a good sleeper and now phantom cries are waking up? It’s like a cruel joke!
Have you ever been woken up by imaginary cries?

Meagan commented on Nov 18 11 at 11:22 pmI can’t remember if that happened to me or not, but the first couple months I would wake up thinking I had fallen asleep holding him and have a moment of panic trying to figure out where he was.
Erin commented on Nov 18 11 at 11:23 pmMy oldest daughter used to cry out in her sleep, so maybe that’s what you’re hearing.
Melissa commented on Nov 19 11 at 10:11 amI always wake up to silence but then a few minutes later I hear the baby. Am I psychic or am I really waking up to baby but not realizing it?
BigTickles commented on Nov 19 11 at 10:13 amIt could be two things which happened to me.
1 – He could be crying out in his sleep as Erin suggested. My almost 3 year old still does it (and sometimes has full conversations!) UGH! OR
2 – You could be so use to getting up that you are not use to not getting up (I hope that makes sense) Thus you jump up thinking you heard a cry.I hope it gets better ;-)
Marie commented on Nov 19 11 at 9:23 pmMy kiddo has night terrors. She’s been known to howl for a few minutes, but she’s sound asleep so if you go in to wake her up, she is right upset with you. Rarely she’ll wake up after howling at herself, but up until she was 2 it was almost always just crying while soundly asleep.
Beth commented on Nov 20 11 at 8:43 amYou know my video monitor pics up neighbors monitors some time. Could this be happening?
Michelle commented on Nov 22 11 at 7:09 amI think you are snoring and that is waking you up! ;) hehehehe
Russ commented on Jan 18 12 at 5:12 amRight now, it’s 5am. I’m staring at the video monitor. My little girl is sound asleep, but my ears are still somehow telling my brain that I can hear her crying. She is 13 months and this started out periodically when she was younger, but recently I’ve been hearing her cry almost every night. She’s been a sleep through the night baby from the beginning (other than teething pains) My wife thinks I’m nuts (I’m starting to agree) and I feel bad that I’m disturbing her sleep, but I just can’t stop hearing this phantom crying.
