7 Things I Would Do Differently

1 300x200 7 Things I Would Do DifferentlyIt’s interesting how much perspective a person can gain in just a few short months. It’s been less than 6 months since he was born, but I already think about what I would change about our first month with Tate. Obviously part of this perspective comes from looking back at a time where I was sleep deprived, hormonal, and terrified that if I did something wrong it would screw my kid up for life. Lately, I have been mulling over that first month in my mind and I feel like I know what I’ll do different next time.

01 7 Things I Would Do Differently

1 - Pictures at the Hospital
I labored with Tate all through the night and that was done mostly in the tub. I ended up completely in the buff for almost the entire process, and as a result I obviously do not have very many pictures to show for it. For the rest of the day after the birth, I was so self conscious about my messy hair and lack of makeup, that I shied away from any pictures with my new born babe.

If I could do it again, I would have put on a little concealer and mascara, ran a comb through my hair, and smiled for the cameras.

What would you do differently?

More pics for sure! Dont worry about the way you look! Its NOT A TIME FOR THAT! Its a time that you can NOT bring back, can NOT reduplicate, etc.. Take pics, dont worry about the way you look, what you are wearing, etc… just enjoy the momement cause you can NOT get that moment back and you will regret not doing it in any other way! Take more pics of your children you have had before the newborn, with the newborn! MORE MORE MORE! Just MORE hospital pics! More during labor, which I wish I wouldve done, had they allowed it! But thanks to my oldest daugther I got ONE pic that is right in that momement!! Thank you Ashley, I will NEVER forget that one!

My number one regret from my son’s first month of life is not taking pictures while he was at the children’s hospital. He was there until he was 3 weeks old and we have like 1 picture from those weeks. I regret that now, even though then I thought the memories of him being in there would be too hard. But I now know that it’s harder not having the visual of how much he changed in that short time.

the moby?? man, i dont blame u for that one! that thing looks crazy complicated! but the sleep thing mommy…ooh. who told u that? that is terrible advice…the sleeping helps the booboo’s grow. plus this may sound crazy but its true: the less they sleep the more awake they are and the chances of the going back to sleep anytime soon is very minimal–making u horrendously tired. and the more they sleep, the more they sleep. which is what u want! =D

I totally agree with ALL of this. I love how it says “click here to purchase chair” after you dog on it. Hilarious.

Ugh, so glad no one told me that about sleep! We never tried to wake him up, we just did the low lights, minimal stimulation at night thing, and while we’ve had our share of sleep issues, mixing up day and night has never been one of them.

We got that same rocker and have the same problem! I feel horrible because it was a gift and we ended up putting it in storage when we moved. I don’t know if it will ever come out – maybe when the baby is a toddler and wants a chair her own size?

I feel the the same way with regards to pictures at the hospital and video. I so regret not getting any pictures of myself with Chloe at the hospital. And it never occured to me to take video. :(

Also youtube using the Moby while nursing your baby, you can do this hands free and clean or cook or get a task done! And even if you thrift a rocking chair it’s so easy to refurbish, I used my sisters from her son 15 years ago, painted it white to match the room and made slip overs for the cushions in soft baby blanket fabric.
