As in I know how awful I feel with a fever so you must feel just as awful, here please allow me to buy you a pony? Vivi had a raging fever last night for no apparent reason other than to befuddle and snuggle. The one time I let my babies out of their room during the night is when they are sick.

Well, maybe she was sick.

Huh, the word fever begins to look really funny after staring at it for a few minutes, maybe *I’m* coming down with something.

Vivi getting a fever in the middle of the night is another one of those things where the 6 year gap gets me. I remember Addie having fevers for no good apparent reason but I don’t really remember if there’s something else I’m supposed to do or not do.

I can tell you one thing.

I don’t open a parenting book and I don’t use Dr. Google.

That stuff is for fools I tell you.

I use my gut and my gut works well.

During the day I normally don’t medicate a fever, you know, the whole let the fever do it’s thing, thing. But last night she was just plain ol’ uncomfortable. After giving her something to break the fever , we sat with her and switched out cool cloths on her forehead (again, projecting, maybe they help, maybe they don’t, but she looked awfully cute with them on, it’s what I do when anyone else is sick and she didn’t seem to mind.)

After about a half an hour she didn’t seem as though her world was closing in around her. We gave her a little milk nightcap and sent her off to bed.

The biggest difference last night is that Cody was around for it. When Addie was a baby he was never around for midnight fevers as he worked graveyards until she was almost 15 months old. If anyone was ready to buy anybody a pony last night it was Cody. I’m surprised that man gets anything done with that giant baby wrapped around his finger.

How do you handle fevers in your house?

My little one never had a fever yet, but i TOTALLY understand the “project onto your baby” thing. She had a little cold last week (runny nose and a little cough, no fever) and i was ready to buy her a pony.
