The Baby Sits – Sort Of [Video]
Tate has been growing more and more independent lately. I am simultaneously loving it and wishing I could stop time all together. I still can’t figure out how Tate is already almost 5 months old, and how it is that this kid has only been around for 5 months – it feels like at least a year! In the spirit of growing up and all that jazz, Tate has decided that if the mood strikes him, he likes to sit up all by himself.
He does it best with a toy between his feet to focus on, and he never stays up for more than 30 seconds, but that counts, right? It counts to me.
As I am typing this it occurs to me that Tate’s march toward independence is bringing a big change our way. Pretty soon, I will be forced to move him from his cradle – I am pretty sure if he can sit up on his own, it’s time to move on. And that will be sad for me, like the end of an era.
But until this kid figures out how to get himself into the sitting position, you can bet I will be taking advantage of every night he still shares our room.
I thought I would share a little video of his new found skills in action:
Isn’t it the cutest? Perhaps I am a little biased.
How long do you think I’ve got until he’s sitting up on his own?

Cindy Petersen commented on Oct 20 11 at 12:34 pmWatching a baby grow and make his way through the many stages that are part of growing up can be a wonderful thing. One thing that can help moms from feeling bad when their baby goes into another stage is to accept and embrace each new stage. Don’t mourn about your baby learning how to sit up or walk, for example. Enjoy each phase and glory in that, and don’t constantly be wishing for the next achievement to arrive. When you do this, you can enjoy all your baby’s experiences and not be always anxious for the baby to get older (so he can walk by himself, or say more words).
Cindy Petersen commented on Oct 20 11 at 12:45 pmIt is important for parents to enjoy each phase of their child’s life, and embrace each stage, not worrying about when a new achievement will come, which means that you can’t fully appreciate what your baby can do now because you’re waiting for the next stage. There are pros and cons to each age of baby. So relish in the pros and forget about the cons. We can be of assistance to the baby in guiding them toward a new skill, but each child develops on his own timetable. I have 15 grandchildren, and love each one very much. It’s so exciting to watch them as they become more independent each day.
