Nursing Bras Blow

asos1 235x300 Nursing Bras BlowI really do love nursing. I think if Tate doesn’t self wean, I will be nursing him until at least 18 months. When I think about that, there is one thing that really depresses me. The thought of wearing a crappy, ill-fitting, awkward nursing bra for another year makes me almost angry. Because nursing bras are terrible. It’s difficult to find them in the right size (are there women who can find any bra in their size?) or with good support. Very few are carried in stores, so you have to order them online without having a chance to try them on.

I did buy a more structured nursing bra, but I stopped wearing it. The molded cup required folding and rolling to nurse Tate, which was incredibly awkward. Also now that my milk supply has settled down, the bra is too big.

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to go out on my own and left Tate with Steve. At the last minute, I decided to change my bra to a non-nursing option. This is the first time I have done that in 5 months, and let me tell you, it was incredible. I felt more attractive than I have in such a long time.

I am considering ordering this option from Asos. It is well reviewed, simple, and under $30. (And also because Asos offers free shipping and returns on all orders.)

What’s your favorite nursing bra? I need advice ladies!

I am a big fan of the $16 target unwire nursing bras. They are the lacy ones.

Glamourmom nursing tank tops. I live in them. They’re supportive enough (and I’m a 36G, so my options are slim) and comfortable, stretchy cotton– not itchy! Plus they’re full sling, so there’s more coverage than with most nursing bras. Highly, highly recommended. I’ve tried, and hated, Hotmilk, a Wal-Mart brand, Elle McPherson, Bravado, and Royce. I wish instead of wasting all that money I’ve just bought more Glamourmom tanks :/

HotMilk!!! I was super frustrated around 3 months postpartum, and just ordered a slew of things from Bare Necessities. Cake, Bravado, Le Mystere, and more. I ended up returning almost all of them, but at least figured out what size I really was. HotMilk have been my favorites; I ended up with 5 of them since I figured I’d be using them for a really long time (had to wean at 6 months because of baby’s GI problems, but oh well). I found them comfy, attractive, supportive, and easy to clip and unclip with one hand. Good luck!

Bravado Body Silk! A little pricey but incredibly comfortable, very supportive, and looks seamless under clothing.

Nummies Style bra is the best. Hands down. The molded cup folds aside easily, unlike some I’ve tried. Spendy, but worth it. Birth and Baby is a terrific online nursing bra resource.

Have also been really happy with the Bravado Seamless silk option.

I have been perfectly happy with the bra I bought from A Pea in the Pod. Black, lacy, no underwire. Sexy enough but still very easy to use.

I got a couple good ones at the Intimacy store. Pricey but worth it. They fit like real bras.

I’ve been nursing for 2 years and have yet to find a decent bra. They don’t fit right (I’ve been measured) or they are too thin (Headlights!), the straps are too narrow or the whole nursing flap clip thing doesn’t work correctly.

It seems that the whole ‘cone boob’ thing is popular with several brands too.

I’ve been wearing glamourmom tanks, but they are too expensive and even with proper care do not stand up to frequent use (nursing beyond 2-6 months).

Bella Materna- LOVE them. They have great underwire t-shirt bras that make your “girls” look nice. Seriously, I’ve tried a few cheaper bras and I felt so unattractive. I love how the clips fasten. They last well. They are a little expensive, but well worth it. The BEST part is theycome in bigger cup sizes. I wear a 34G and let me tell you that is hard size to find. I will say that my bra felt a tad stiff for the first week or so, but now that it’s broken in, It’s super comfy. I will nurse my daughter until she’s 18 months and I don’t dread wearing this bra everyday. I do also like wearing the Target Nursing Tanks for sleeping or just around the house in the mornings.

I really like the bras I got from Motherhood Maternity for everyday and for something sexy and comfortable I like You! Lingerie!! Best of luck!!

I had the chance to see Bella Materna’s nursing bras up close as a buyer for a new online maternity boutique (www.fashionforwardmaternity.com) and these looked amazing! Beautiful looking, comfortable, and excellent nursing style/access. From the other comments above, it seems like others agree. I think we’ll be carrying these for our customers.

My Bravados ride up in the back. My Hotmilk is too high cut, and I can’t wear it with many lower tops. I’m a 38C, so I can easily fit in the cheepy Gilligan & O’Malleys from Target…Can’t beat $16!

I highly recommended getting a bra fitting, if possible, by a lactation consultant. There’s a women’s center at one of our local hospitals that does fittings and has a great variety of nursing bras in stock, so you can see before you buy. I would never have found them had I not delivered at that hospital. While a specialty bra store or women’s center might be a tad pricier, it is definitely worth it to be able to try before you buy and to feel comfortable and attractive for the next 12-18 months!

The Glamourmom nursing tanks don’t have enough “side-boob” support for me. They also have the creepy hole-type cups, which don’t lay flat as well, and make pumping hard. I MUCH prefer the Bravado nursing tanks. They are supportive enough, and lined to avoid awkwardness. I am a 40F and didn’t feel saggy at all in them. The nice thing about a nursing tank is that it keeps your belly covered when you are nursing, and the cups fold down completely for more skin to skin, and easier pumping.

I love Bravado Bliss & tanks!
