Tate at the Beach
Over Labor Day weekend, we took our first trip to the beach since we moved to Coastal Texas. One thing I wasn’t sure about was how to best handle Tate. Turns out, I had nothing to worry about, he did awesome.
Going to the beach did make me realize that I need a few things to make it a really great experience. Read about it after the jump.
He fell asleep in the car on our way to the beach, and spent at least half of our time at the beach asleep in his car seat. He spent another quarter breastfeeding in the shade. And we spent a whole half an hour with him strapped in the moby, wading in the water with me. We got his feet wet, but I was unsure about getting too wet in my 8 yards of moby. I am thinking of investing in a wrap made for the water.
I had a hat on him, but wasn’t sure what else I could do for sun protection. I know it is suggested not to use sunscreen on babies under 6 months, but I don’t want that to keep us indoors. So, I am curious what you guys suggest? I was thinking a long sleeve baby rash guard?
Here are a few rash guards (on sale) and water wrap baby carriers I would love to pick up:

This is a MUST for de-sanding before getting back into the car, changing sandy diapers, etc. Douse it on, and it It wicks away all the moisture from the sand on feet, toes, hands, diaper areas, and makes it just fall off. You’ll never go to the beach without it!

And they constantly have promotions that let you get them paying only shipping. I got mine (with the matching bracelet and leggings, :-D) for $10 or so. I would definitely recommend the rashguard thing, it makes you want to put them in the water a little so they don’t get too hot, as well feeling like they’re more protected.
maggie commented on Sep 12 11 at 3:23 pmi have a baby k’tan and i use it in the pool. i have the breeze version so it is half mesh half cotton. whats great is that you can wear it like a moby, but it is WAY less fabric and easier to use. the breeze mesh one is great too because it is cooler and good for water.
Jennie commented on Sep 12 11 at 3:58 pmI have always used baby sunblock on Calee.. Since she was 3 months old. We never had any issues with rashes or anything. And the baby powder tip is definitely one to remember also!
M.F.Peterson commented on Sep 18 11 at 11:17 amYou can use sunscreen on a newborn! You should just avoid *chemical* sunscreen and stick to the physical blocker (titanium oxide). Neutrogena makes a great sunscreen stick for babies. Also, almost any sunscreen you get at Whole Foods or other “crunchy” stores. California Baby is a good brand to look into. Also, the risk of skin cancer is way higher than the risk of a little chemical sunscreen exposure – just keep it away from eyes, mouth, and hands. Besides, if you’re wearing chemical sunscreen and nursing…he’s getting what’s on your arms/chest rubbed all over him anyway.
