She Rolls… And I Have a Heart Attack

So big!

She is getting so big… and now she is starting to make all these milestones that scare the living bejesus out of me on a daily basis.

You would think she was my first baby right?   While she is number three and I am supposed to get more laid back with each child… that is not the case by any means. The more I read about infants getting hurt, or injured, and even SIDS… the more my anxiety level goes right up!

Now Addison is rolling… all over the place. If I put her on her belly, she rolls onto her back, and while she still isn’t rolling from her back to her belly, she is getting herself onto her side pretty frequently.  I have to move her several times a night from sleeping on her side to actually sleeping on her back.

I keep telling myself… back to sleep… back to sleep… back to sleep!

I know I am not alone out there though, I can’t be the only one who freaks out about her little one and the possibility that she will roll onto her belly, especially in the middle of the night.

Oh, and speaking of nights… it seems like my 4 month old has no interest in sleeping at night anymore… at all.

She is up hourly now… wanting to eat, cuddle and actually be in my bed instead of in our co-sleeper on the side of the bed. Which isn’t flying with me these days simply because I went through this with my oldest and didn’t finally get him out of our bed till he was 3.  For a period of time he actually took over my husband’s spot because we all just couldn’t fit in the bed together… comfortably while I was giant pregnant with Addie.

Oh the joy of having a four month old right?

I am going through many of the same things! (Except the belly anxiety, I’ve put him on his belly to sleep since he was 2 weeks old.) He doesn’t sleep at night anymore either though! It’s hard since he used to sleep through the night!!

Lately we’ve noticed that he moves around so much that it’s hard for him to settle. So we’ve been swaddling again and it works! Even though he hasn’t really been swaddled since he was in the hospital it soothes him.

Good luck! Let’s hope the 4 month sleep regression ends soon!

i have a 4 month old right now an i have no problem with her, she can roll from her back to her tummy, from her tummy to her back, an she is so super close to crawling! she has the legs going but the arms just wont keep up, its super cute! i dont really worry about her turning on her tummy in the night an i dont mess with her when she sleeps ,if shes sleeping, shes sleeping! she is a good sleeper, she goes to sleep at around 11 or 12 an gets up around 9am an then goes back to sleep for about 3 more hours. i have a nightly routine that around 9pm we turn down the lights an we put on a movie,an we get in our pjs, at around 11 she is snoozing! we have had this for about 2 months now. i dont really bug her i just let her sleep! ok ok i know all this stuff about SIDS an everything but if you listen in the hospital, they dont know what causes SIDS, they say we think! so i mean, its really hard to say what really causes it! it has changed every couple years since our parents were our babies age! even in the hospital my baby would not sleep on her back she wanted her side! so i mean if the hospital staff is turning her on her side then come on,how would you like being stuck in one sleeping position! even her doc said let her sleep on what ever side she wants as long as she can move her neck to be able to breath. i mean dont get me wrong i still worry! but am sorry babies are tough cookies! if cave women did it,am pretty sure we all can! this is my opinion please do what you want with it! the only thing that works for me is a routine an not bugging her an letting her sleep as she wishes! remember by law hospital staffs have to tell you things and unwillingly its all frightening….you know your baby best and you should do what you think is right for them. not what the world always tells you to do. but if it was me id let the poor baby roll, i promise that your baby will be fine!

I am a mother of 5 and a grandmother of 15…all of my children and most of my grandchildren slept on their tummies…in fact when my children were babies, that’s what we were told was best. my youngest grand is now 8 months old and he will only sleep on his tummy….on his back just never worked….do what works for your child, but safely…no crib bumpers or stuffed animals, or extra blankets, etc….

The Back to Sleep program may slightly reduce the instance of SIDS, sure, but it also is one of the most major causes of plagiocephaly, a flattening to the back of the head, from which more and more babies suffer each year. Once a baby can roll around, there’s no reason whatsoever for force him to sleep on his side. Let a baby sleep where he’s comfy to prevent plagiocephaly.
