6 First Year Learning Milestones
I was reading the latest issue of Parents this morning (oh the free time now that my oldest started school) and they had a fun article on Learning Milestones.
I’m utterly fascinated by a Baby’s first year and how much they are able to go from uncommunicative blobs to personality oozing toddlers.
The article showcased 6 Learning Milestones…
2 Months: Cause and Effect
Babies will kick more when the kick results in a toy responding, like lights or a moving mobile. They also start to learn from our faces and how we react to their smiles and cries.
3 Months: Reacting to Words
Babies by this age already respond more to the human voice than just random sounds. It highlights why talking to your child is so important.
4 Months: Recognizing Name
I was just starting to wonder if Little Bean knew his name. Once your child knows his name, he’s focused enough to be able to discern sounds and he probably has good hearing.
6 Months: Understanding Intentions
According to the article your child knows when you are teasing him. “6 month olds can tell the difference between an adult being unable to do something and being unwilling to do it.” They can also tell when you aren’t 100% present, like being distracted by the phone or the computer. (I’m SO guilty of this!)
9 Months: Gesturing
Shaking heads, waving goodbye, pointing! I’m looking forward to this stage! We aren’t quite there yet.
12 Months: Using Basic Words
They can understand more than they can say, but from this point on children are growing their vocabularies!
The first year is truly amazing! I’m almost smack dab in the middle of it and I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months holds in store for us!

@ Janette from grammar patrol:
Actually, Janette, because it isn’t a sentence, only a description, and there isn’t a verb to which the pronoun is referring to, there is no right or wrong to say Little Bean and I or Little Bean and me.
p.s. Do you I get your gold star now?
Patty commented on Aug 31 11 at 11:42 pm@Janette: Really? Do you feel better now?
