The Maternal (long arm) Self Portrait Slideshow.
The irony of being a photographer in your spare time is that you’re not in many of the pictures. In fact I realized tonight that there aren’t many photos of myself with Vivi that aren’t taken long arm style by me. Sad right? Kind of.
You see, the photos I have taken of us together are some of my favorite. I can remember the exact moment of each photo. The warm baby snuggles, the sunshine coming in through the window…basically the bliss of being hunkered down with a new baby.
Vivi’s first three months in maternal self portraits after the jump!
As much as I love these, I’m ready for some grown up photos taken by another grown up of my baby and me.
How about you? Are you happy with long arm snapshots, everyday photos or do you hire a professional?

SarahInMI commented on Aug 24 11 at 10:03 pmI have only long arm shots of me and my kids. I want REAL ones. I do not exist in family pictures. It’s like I don’t even live here. :(

Kristen commented on Aug 25 11 at 10:57 amOh, this is so me too. The only pregnancy photos I have right now are ones that I take in the mirror. And in addition to showing my growing belly, they also show just how much I need to clean my bathroom mirror.
Maybe I can ask my three-year-old to take pictures of the baby and me once s/he arrives…
Jen L. commented on Aug 25 11 at 11:03 amYes indeedy. the few pictures of me with my son after he was born show me as a leaky, swollen mess (which, let’s face it, is what I was). We finally hired a friend to take some photos at our favorite park when my son was TWO AND A HALF OMG, and I love them so much. My hair even looks cute in a couple of them.
Carolyn commented on Aug 25 11 at 12:30 pmI was setting up a new photo blog to show pictures of my new baby, and my husband looked at the photo of the two of us in the corner and said, “You should put a picture of ALL of us there, instead!” To which I replied, “I’d really love to, but I don’t HAVE any of all of us together!” He came back with, “At least put a better photo of us, then. That one is old”. I had to then remind him, “You hardly ever let me take your picture, so that’s ALL WE’VE GOT!” ;) I don’t know that I want to hire someone to take photos of us (my husband HATES having his picture taken in any circumstance, I don’t think he’d be down with PAYING for it!) but it sure would be nice to at least be in some random shots at family gatherings! Why am I never in any??
Katie commented on Aug 25 11 at 12:52 pmSo every year on vacation my mom always says “here! Take my camera and take a picture of me so I know I was here.” We make a joke of it after 18 years of the same comment, but there’s some validity in it. I look back at all our family pics and I’m in very few. If something were to happen to me, my kids would have very fees pics of me. And of us together. Sad.
I think I’m going to make the hubs take my pic tonight with my kids. :)
Irene B commented on Aug 25 11 at 7:51 pmMy daughter is 4 months old and we only have one photo of my hubby and I together with her! (Other than the one taken just minutes after she was born.) We have tons of one or the other of us with her, but somehow keep forgetting to get group shots. I’m so happy to hear this is fairly normal lol
