The 3 Best And 3 Worst Places I’ve Changed A Diaper
I’ve been around the block as a mom, both literally and figuratively. I”ve gone cross-country with both babies multiple times, driven up and down from Northern Vermont to New York City, among other road trips.
I’ve changed a poop diaper or two. Or a thousand, maybe. (Wow, that’s a lot of poop).
During my travels, both my husband and I have encountered some ‘Grade A’ poop-changing locales and then some that might need a grade from an alphabet that has more than 26 letters. I’ve made a short list of some that I remember being particularly good, or particularly bad. I know that many of you have probably encountered some great and horrible ones as well, so please feel free to share in the comments!

Rosstwinmom commented on Jul 26 11 at 7:32 amLove, love, love family changing rooms. Both of my twins can be in there at the same time without much fear of them wandering off to look under stalls. I have changed them in the trunk of the car many a time. Way less filthy and hot than some public restrooms.
Adriana commented on Aug 05 11 at 5:50 amI got so tired of trying to find a place to change my babies diapers that I finally made an extra large changing pad for the back of my trail blazer. I also made my self a hangable holder for diapers, wipes, but cream, and all the other little needed stuff. Then i would never have to take my child into a place to try and have her diaper changed. I had every thing I need in the car. If I have to travel I take it with me, doesn’t take much room. So if there are no bathrooms avalible or they are dirty I can change my little one on the floor, or where ever I find a sucluded spot.
HBO commented on Aug 05 11 at 6:15 amMy son has karate lessons at the senior center so obviously they don’t have much by the way of diaper changing accommodations. So I just have to change him on top of the counter between the sinks and hope no one comes in and gets grossed out ! He hates being on those changing stations anyways. Some of them do seem kind of flimsy. One of the most difficult places is actually changing him in the stroller. I forgot why this was, but it was awkward.
sarah b commented on Aug 05 11 at 6:25 amthe worst for me was an Apple store. Maybe the washrooms are not for the public, but they had no changing table and they only had one washroom unit for men and one for female. I ended up using the men’s since there was such a long line for the girls. I had to use the floor. yuck!
the best is the public washroom at the Bolingbrook Promenade in IL. They not only have men and women washrooms but they also have a HUGE family room with multiple nursing rooms, changing tables and places for the kids. Really the best Ive ever seen.
Dolores commented on Aug 05 11 at 11:54 amI once had to change my nephew’s diaper in the stairwell of a medical building, where his mother was at an appointment to see her ob/gyn. The bathroom facilities there did not have any changing tables–they didn’t even have any counter tops. My nephew had already gotten to that wiggly stage, and the stairwell was pretty well trafficked–what an adventure!
Stephanie commented on Aug 05 11 at 11:56 amtheres an amazing chinese resturant i love to go to whenever i can.. i went there about 5 months ago and took my son with me. and wouldnt you kno it he had an extremely poop..*blowout* and i took him into the ladies bathroom thinking they would have one seeings as how many ppl i had seen there before with infants.. yea no such luck!! it was a nice big bathroom for one person. so it has room for a changing station but doesnt. i had to lay toilet paper down on the floor to change him… beyond gross..
the BEST place i have changed him has been the meridian mall in lansing MI,, they dont have any in the bathrooms but they have super nice family restrooms for you to use.. a friend and i where both able to take our full strollers in together and change our boys. it was amazing! they also had a very nice nursing lounge!!
