On Tooth Order: What Does It Mean?
A while back I posted on Fuzz’s toothless grin at 8 months. At 9 months, he finally sprouted a bottom front tooth on the right side.
Then….nothing. For another two months!
Suddenly, he got another one. But you’d think it would be the second bottom tooth, right?
Nope.
Top right tooth. He was starting to look like a Jack-O-Lantern.
Then, a week later, boom and boom, first upper left, then lower left. (Don’t ask how many times he woke up those two nights, even with Tylenol, cuz I sure can’t count). So now he’s got little white ridges popping out for those. But still, barely four teeth on the little guy and he’ll be 11 months very soon.
I remember one of the commenters on my original post was married to a dentist and said the following, which I thought was interesting:
Considering how much of child development seems universal to a couple of months, the variation in tooth development is incredible.
So the variation in timing doesn’t bother me, but the order in which his teeth seem to be coming in seems bizarre to me. Shnook went by the books: two bottom fronts, two top fronts…well, after that it’s all a blur, and he got them right “on time” according to the books (probably the only thing he did that way).
Incidentally, check out this great list of teething remedies!!
So anyone else have a Jack-O-Lantern for a baby? Is it normal for teeth to come in all over the place? What does this mean for his college acceptance rate?

Danielle commented on Jul 22 11 at 11:26 pmAbby’s teeth started coming in at 6 months, and she did it the regular old way, first two bottom teeth, then two top teeth, then the other two top teeth, and then….nothing since. Although, she really don’t let me feel or look, so who knows what’s really going on in her mouth.
Julie commented on Jul 23 11 at 3:16 pmIt just means your kiddo is unique. And omg, take tons of pics of that cute mouth LOL
Dana commented on Jul 24 11 at 11:33 amMy baby got his first tooth at 9 months, second tooth at 11 months, and third and fourth (and probably 5th soon) not until 15 months. My dad kept joking that we were gonna have to buy baby dentures, although he sure did well eating with just 2 teeth. LOL His two front bottom teeth came in first, then, I think the one to the left of the bottom tooth. I was totally expecting a top tooth next, and was watching the top, but then right after his top left front tooth finally popped through, I realized that the one on the bottom was already through. And his other front tooth will probably be through in the next week or so. Luckily, the only tooth that seemed to bother him was the first one. He drools a lot anyway, and we have been very blessed that he hasn’t run a fever or seemed to hurt with any of the others.
M commented on Jul 25 11 at 4:44 pmMy baby is getting his top canines in this week at 3.5 months.. Sure hope his front middle teeth come in soon, or he will look like a little baby vampire!
cocoschmoco commented on Jul 25 11 at 9:46 pmMy older son got all four of his top front teeth at once, it had to have sucked for him!

@cocoschmoco- Ouch!
@Julie- thanks, will do!
@Danielle- F doesn’t let me check either. It’s only because they’re in the front that I could really see!
@Dana- glad to hear I’m not alone!!
Danielle commented on Jul 26 11 at 11:31 pmI just got my fingers in Abby’s mouth…she’s totally got teeth coming in in the way back of her mouth…like, molars! Totally out of order!
